Great accuracy great penetration. Probably the best all around bullet for all game. Only con is the price. I do believe the 120sst transfers more energy to the target but that is just my observation.

 

I have many, many kills on game with this bullet, both deer, hogs and some varmints. I believe it is the best all-around bullet for 6.8. It has other features that make it attractive, especially the opening velocity of 1600 FPS. That means it will likely function at around 350-400 yards, depending upon the load and rifle from which its fired.

It also has a flatter trajectory than most of the heavier bullets.

Retains all its weight, so expansion is consistent and reliable.

I've always favored the following three loads:

1) 30 grains AA2200, SSA, CCI 41, and 2.295" OAL, no crimp

2) 29.5 grains RE 10X, SSA, CCI 41, 2.295"

3) 28.2 grains Re 7, SSA, WSRM, 2.295" (ETA: that target shold say "2.295" OAL)

Kills out to 300 in my personal field experience. This hog was killed right at 295 yards...with a 12 inch barreled SBR no less.

Exceptionally reliable and consistent expansion:

 

Most accurate load out of my Stag 7H, one hole groups @ 100 Yds. Good accuracy out of Stag 5H. Have not shot any game yet, but will this year.
Load data: 29.2 grns RL10X, SSA brass, 2.285" OAL. Avg 2741 fps out of 5H, avg 2890 fps out of 7H.

Just started using this bullet before the start of deer season. Used a handload consisting of 30 grains 2200, CCI #41, SSA brass, 2.295" OAL. Proved very effective on deer and hogs with no signs of pressure in any of my uppers. Like others I like everything about it except for the cost. In my opinion, the best hunting bullet for the 6.8 until something better comes along.

 

I have been very impressed with the performance of this bullet. Yet to give them some field time, but definitely will be taking these on my next hunt and leave the 120 sst as back ups. I really want to see the cavitation this bullet makes, just because there is a little more energy than my current 120gr. sst load.

1/2" group @100 with 3058fps avg. with a Stag 7h. SSA brass CCI 41's 30gr. of AA2200 COAL 2.285. I will give 2.295 a go though.

I have an ARP 18" SS Upper. Two seasons ago I found a load using H322 that produced consistent 1" groups. I shot three deer with this combination - two lung shots and one through both front legs. Two were shot at 30-40 yards and the other was at 85 yards (my avatar). The lung shot deer proved to be hard to track. In fact one was lost. The blood trail on these two was slight to non-existing. With that said, this bullet does seem to perform as designed and will exit. PLease take my opinion for what it is with only three confirmed kills.

Since others are having really good luck with the 95TTSX, I recently tried them with AA2200. Every group I shot in my test run averaged 0.50 to below 1" at 100 yards. I choose 30.0 grains to test different COAL with 2.295" being the winner. I will be hunting with this load next season.

Loads (with necks turned to 0.013 maximum and a light crimp Lee FCD):
95TTSX with 29.6grs H322 COAL 2.300 & CCI41 Velocity - 2690 Group size - 0.928"
95TTSX with 30.0grs AA2200 COAL 2.295 & CCI41 Velocity - 2808 Group size - 0.736"

the nose cavity isn't quite as uniform as the Barnes though. I would think that would make it less concentric and create more vibration as it travels down the barrel and translate to more wobble after exiting the barrel = less accuracy at extended ranges...has anyone done accuracy tests between the 2?

My experience, too. However, I have already switched over to AA2200, and I did notice just a little more accuracy from the ball versus the stick powder. All in all, the load is still my favorite, and I completely agree with the statement that it "boosts the performance of the 6.8"

 

I agree as its my favorite as well. It put a very nice 3/4" hole all the way through the neck of the deer i took at HTRs place and has similar results since. What people still fail to see, in my experience, is the effective design over the modern bullets that bring the performance up considerably. I still hear the, well a 95gr bullets awfully small. Im ok with that lol.

So, is there a benifit to that deeper channel on the Nosler? I would be a little concerned of the bullet losing mass if it comes apart too much.

 

The Barnes bullet is solid copper and softer than the Nosler 95% copper and 5% zinc alloy. This the Nosler needs the larger expansion cavity. It still holds together when it expands. This link shows a performance comparison of all the monolithic 6.8mm bullets.

Accurate but pricey. This the first Barnes that has been this accurate for me.
dime size and smaller for groups, will give this bullet a try even though its pricey

BBoswell, don't feel alone I have 12 bxs of SSA 110 barnes TSX and 5bxs Hornady 120SST...LOL Just can't or don't need every possibility.

 

I finally had a chance to purchase some AA2200 to try out in my 18.6" spec 11 1-11" twist Robinson Arms XCR-L worked up to 30grs with the 95gr TTSX 2.29" COL but haven't had a chance to shoot them in this rifle yet.

I also have a saami spec chambered 1-10" twist 23" s/s T/C Contender carbine barrel that I have been struggling to get an accurate load for I had it at the range this last Sunday getting ready for opening deer season that was yesterday with a few different bullets/loads 28grs AA2200 with 110gr TTSX loaded out to 2.40" COL gave me my best accuracy load so far but I shot all of them and I wasn't happy with the drop I was getting @ 200 yards even though I had them zeroed 1 3/4" high @ 100 yards they were hitting 4" - 5" low @ 200 yards.

So I decided to try some of the 95gr TTSX loads in my Contender barrel holy cow was I amazed with the accuracy I was getting 1/2" 3 shot 100 yard groups after using up most of the reloads I had it dialed in just under 2" high at 100 yards I only tried one shot out to 200 yards it hit 1/2" low and 1/2" left of the bulleye.

I only had 8 left so I packed up and headed out deer hunting yesterday morning didn't see a thing but sure had a good time packing that accurate combo.

 

The 110 TSX @2.40" was probably very low velocity (guessing 2400 fps range) thus low @200 yds. The 95s @2.29" probably over 2800+ fps.

 

That is kind of what I was thinking I didn't have time to chrony any of the loads so not sure of the velocities (need to fix that) and I was loading/shooting 110gr TTSX shouldn't make much (if any) of a difference between those two though.

Doesn't really matter about the 110gr loads now either I will most likely never use/shoot them again now that I have this accurate combo I will be shooting/hunting with the 95gr TTSX/AA2200 in this rifle now should cover me for coyotes/deer/bear.

 

Agree since the 95s are much faster also. Most loads posted on the 110 TSX with 28.0 gr 2200 are around 2500 fps w/ a 16" barrel, easily 300 fps slower and the 110s were loaded to ~2.295". Yours @2.40" would drop pressure and velocity by at least 100fps. I have seen loads posted as high as 30.0 gr 2200 @ 2.30" (~2673 fps). Have not seen too many loads reach 2700 fps w/ 2200.

 

How much farther can I go? I ran the 95 TTSX 2.295" COAL with 30.0gr and 30.5gr of AA2200 yesterday (65F). Average FPS was 2830 and 2890 in a 18" PSA barrel. The primers don't appear to be flattened yet. I was thinking of working up to 31.0. Recommendations?

the main question is what does the accuracy look like. I would rather have accuracy over 1gr of velocity anyday of the week. 2800 fps is plenty fast for that bullet. Plug the numbers into a ballistics calculator and check your max range need minimum of 1600fps for proper expansion.

Finally made it to the range yesterday with my chrony and the 30gr AA2200/95gr TTSX/new Rem LR primer brass/Win LR primers/2.29" COL loads below are the average velocities bonus is both rifles shoot these into MOA @ 200 yards = one load for both rifles.

Robinson Arms XCR-L 18.6" 1-11" spec 11 chambered barrel = 2892fps

T/C Contender 23" s/s bull saami spec 1-10" twist barrel = 2960fps

 

That's pretty hot. What does the brass look like? I had to push pretty hot as well to get the accuracy. Then had to go to a tac spring and heavier buffer to deal with slight pressure signs. Thanks H for that advice btw.
