6.8 SBR thoughts

So, I have had this thought for a while, but since I just got a stripped lower I guess I might as well entertain the option again. Here are my thoughts and I would appreciate yours.

-From what I have read 10.5" barrels are as short as most people recommend for a 6.8 sbr and 12.5" seems to be the recommended length by most people. One consideration is that I would eventually like to collect more stamps and have a suppressor to pull double duty with this rifle and my .308 bolt rifle. So, I would want it to be long enough to not void the suppressor warranty (I feel like I have read that a short enough barrel will void a warranty).

-I have always been intrigued by the piston AR's and so I would like to entertain that as an option. I like the Adams Arms setup for a lot of reasons but I like that the gas block has settings for suppressed fire and single shot operation.

- I am indifferent on handguards. If I go the piston route I will have limited options anyway. My primary concern would be being able to attach something like a Magpul AFG while minimizing weight and keeping a good balanced rifle.

- Butstock would be one of the adjustable magpul options. I have a ctr now on another rifle but I think I would go to something like the ACS or UBR.

-Trigger is an unknown at this point. Obviously this type of rifle isn't meant to be a precision rifle but I have space to shoot out to about 400 yards so I would want a decent trigger that could pull both precision and run and gun duties

- Optics would probably be something like an aimpoint micro. Potentially one of their flip to side 3x or 4x setups. That really depends on what type of performance I can squeeze out of it at longer distances.

My primary questions to you guys are around barrel length and piston setups on a SBR. The rest of it is personal preference for the most part but those are functional decisions that need to be made.

I like ARP's pipes so I'd go with the 12.5", guys here are running them on DI setups with no problems. However, I'm not sure how many are running cans. ARP can open up the gas port if you wish for can use though.

Wilson Combat makes a 11.3" too if you would like to go a little shorter.

so this is a great thread.
as i stated before i am looking at going sbr, and i would also like to get a can at somepoint.
am i reading this correctly in that its not a matter plug and play?
what happens?
is this a concern for ALL guns with cans, or just SBR and a can?
from what i gather, it seems as if you can over pressure a can and it seems as if some barrel makers compensate for that with their gas block somehow.
what happens if you over pressure, is it catastrophic?

While certain suppressors are rated for use down to certain barrel lengths, that is largely for warranty and liability purposes.

The bigger question is how adding a suppressor impacts the timing of your action. On longer barrels/gas systems there is a larger tolerance for increased pressure seen by adding a suppressor.

I have a 6.8 upper in a 9" barrel and my YHM Phantom will fit no problem. Since they are a piston upper only a slight twist and the suppresor works.
