I did a search and there is some stuff on the Hodgon Superperformance powder, but it's many months old, so I bring this back to quiz. Any data on the Hodgdon Superperformance of the CFE 223 powders for load data on the 6.8 SPC II? http://www.hodgdon.com/rifle.html
CFE 223 sounds like the powder St Marks made for the new 5.56 green ammo.
Looking at the load data for CFE 223 I can tell you it will be way to slow, close to BLC-2, TAC, AA2520 in burn rate.
Lead Free 5.56mm BALL POWDER® Propellant
I
• BALL POWDER® Propellant designed for lead-free projectiles and primers
• Propellant additives developed for barrel decoppering
Superformance is also way too slow. If it works well in the WSM calibers, it will not work with the 6.8. Hodgdon lists it as being slower than IMR4831.
I found the burn rate chart... finally, and it does show it to be a rather slower burn powder. Others showed a lot more promise, and I even seen some loading from Hodgdon for one they have called "Lil' Gun", which may be a bit on the fast side.
FWIW, one I have had very good success with for accurate loads is IMR's powder 8208XBR. I find that loading the case nearly full, 1/8" down from the neck, and tapping to settle the powder gives you a pretty decent compressed load, with great accuracy and no signs of excessive pressure on my 2 uppers of 6.8 SPC II - One from Harrison Beene a 16" 1:11.25 twist with 5R rifiling and the other a 4 groove 1:11 twist from Bison, but in 18" barrel. Both shooting the 100gr bullets of Speer and Sierra. Believe that was around 30 gr of IMR 8208 XBR.
