    Default Ammo for Whitetail...

I'm the proud owner for a new 6.8 upper for my AR-15 that I will be using for whitetail deer season here in WI. Now that I know I have an upper coming I'm on the hunt for factory ammo. I seems as if I can't go wrong with 110g Pro Hunter, however, it doesn't seem to be readily available (is anything?).

I have a 18" Bison barrel, could see shots out to 200 yards, but really it's more likely to be in the 10-50 yards in the woods, sometimes in briar bushes. We do some rumbling through some thick stuff to try to push deer if we don't see anything the morning of opening weekend.

So, I'm looking for a next best option if I can't find any ProHunter.

    Thanks!

Can you load your own? I know Cabelas in Richfield had the components to do it as of last week, I haven't checked if they have loaded ammo recently.

Cabelas carries them. the one here had 85 Barnes and 115 otm.(115 otm not recommended for deer) So they should carry some there as well. Palmetto is a site sponser here so you dont have to search far. You could get the Accubond from SSA as that is a good deer round also.

From what i understand.... 85 Barnes TSX is atually quite suitable to shoot whitetail with... i think i'm going to try and shoot my first buck with a 6.8 this year, and thinking of using the 85 TSX....

Now will the Tactical Load be too much?

That was referened to the 115 smk not the Barnes. Sorry for the confusion.

I just killed two very large deer this week with the 85 grain SSA tactical load and it hit like a freight train.

If you could get that load in time I would highly recommend it. And as I understand it, there is no lead in that projectile, and less lead in your meat is a good plan I think.

Not to go OT but is it just me or are us WI boys starting to catch up to the Texans on this board.
