Default The Remington MSR - fantastic design and curb appeal

This makes an ordinary civilian man drool upon first glimpse.

I just acquired my first 6.8 SPC II and love it !
This is not within the 6.8 realm obviously. Another modular arm like it's little bro the Remington ACR, which looks great for a CQB rifle and will be coming out with a 6.8 SPC II.

The Modular Sniper Rifle (MSR) caliber has inter-changable barrels -338 Lapua Magnum, 338 Norma Magnum, 300 Winchester Magnum, & 7.62mm NATO
The possible drawback to some, as I see, is the bolt action. But the Knight M110 SASS is already in use for 7.62.

Competed in the PSR category for SOCOM, I don't know if the jury is in yet, anyone ?

1 MOA accuracy vertical dispersion at 1500m (338 LM precision ammunition) a SOCOM requirement.

Or the fact that it looks like it would absolutely snag on everything it touched. Not good if your a sniper crawling along the ground or trying to move stealthily.

Its probably $10K+ too... However, it does look tacti-cool.

Good to see the barrel can be removed (as you posted?)... "barrel LIFE 2,500 rounds", not to much shooting at paper with that. But my Lord, 1moa at 1500, wow.

This is common in highpower competition too. At 2000 to 3000 rounds, depending on caliber, the barrel is removed. The chamber end is cut off approximately 2", rechambered and rethreaded. The muzzle usually looses at least 1" also. The barrel is reinstalled and headspaced.

This gets you fresh rifling in the chamber area and a new crown. The biggest problem for every rifle in regards to accuracy are these two areas. Throat erosion is fixed the same as the muzzle. The muzzle end tends to open up after repeated firings. I've heard it called "fish mouthed" before. This gets you back to like new status.

This process has brought many a rifle back to life. It won't usually last as long as the original barrel work, but another 1000 or 1500 rounds are good as new. This is another reason why bolt action competition rifles run long in the barrel dimensions. It's already planned for at least one "set back" (i.e. rechambering).
