I keep hoping for a 6.8 in the Ruger Ranch rifle. I emailed them with that suggestion too. I can always hope.

You mean like this one? http://www.ruger.com/news/2007-04-12a.html That has been out for quite some time.

I was referring to the bolt action version of the American ranch rifle. I should have been more specific. Thanks

I guess I haven't been reading my Ruger news letters. I didn't even realize they were making "Ranch" version of the American.

Why build when you can buy a very nice production rifle in 6.8spc:

Browning does not make those in 6.8 any longer.

The 6.8 bolt head from PTG WAS $70 before shipping and McGowen barrel was $370. I'm into the Savage Rifle for $275. Still need mounts and glass. I'm eventually going to upgrade to a McMillan stock maybe next year.

i checked with AR performance and they told me the Savage prefit barrels took a long time to get rid of and they weren't going to be doing anymore.

Do you have a link to theses parts or any info for ordering that you could help with this will be my first bolt rifle built. I'm thinking I will need a .223 savage as the base to start with. Also being parts are being changed out does it matter what model to go with
    Thanks

    Default Model base

Unless someone else knows better then your best build platforms for aftermarket parts are Savage 10/110 or Remington 700 or model 7. PTG http://pacifictoolandgauge.com/195-savage-bolt-heads
    McGowen barrels https://mcgowenbarrel.com/
they we're very helpful in ordering the Barrel since it doesn't come up on the normal menu drop dows. Just specify in the notes section the specifics and they will get it.

Mine is from a Savage Axis platform, 20" McGowen barrel, shoots lights out on the 110's (hdy, Accubond, Pro Hunter) and 90 TNT... and the PTG bolt face. It was my first build, just be patient and get some decent tools to help.
