    Default 6.8 Bolt Gun question

Has anyone on the forum used a donor action to build a 6.8 bolt gun? Pics and parts details please.

It has been done but don't recall who it was. I will think on it a while and may recall which member did it and others may recall sooner.

I know one was a Savage action, believe another used a Mini CZ.

I bought a thin land 16" 6.8 barrel from ARP couple years ago and put it on a savage Edge 308 action. Gotta get a stock for it but did bust a armadillo with it.

I bought one of the same barrels and built one on a Savage 11 .223 donor rifle. My dad still has if for a deer rifle. I will see if I kept any of the pics.

    Nope. 223 is .378" vs 6.8 is .422"
We just put the bolt head on the lathe and opened it up.

Not. You can either open it up (see above post) or get a replacement 6.8 one from PTG. Fits on a savage bolt. I built a 6.8 on a savage axis action. Using PTG bolt head, 20" barrel from McGowen, changed out the stock (Boyd's) and trigger (forget the brand, it's a ~2# pull after-mkt) also.
I used savage b/c a regular guy can do it, if you have a little mechanical aptitude and are careful; takes only a few tools.

I bought a Savage model 10PC and put an ARP 20" barrel on it in October. Haven't got to shoot it much, but the initial trials went well.
