\n Default Cavity Back Bullets Thread\n

\n \n\n\n \n \n
\n
\n
\n I was asked by the mods to bring the thread about my new product over here while waiting for the site hosts/owners to get a hold of me for becoming a sponsor/vendor.
\nI was given permission to include our website.
\nwww.cavitybackbullets.com
\n
\nWe should bring all discussions on the product over here until such time as they contact me.
\nThere is a thread in the bullets listings started for results of loads and testing.
\n
\nCurrently we have in the 6.8/.277:
\n120 grain MKZ (Maximum Kill Zone)
\n105 grain MKZ (Maximum Kill Zone)
\n120 grain TMT (Tactical Match Target)
\n
\nThere is another 6.8 bullet in prototype as well. Feel free to weigh in on what you would like to see.
\n
\nIn the 6.5mm/.264 we have:
\n118 grain MKZ (Maximum Kill Zone)
\n105 grain MKZ (Maximum Kill Zone)
\n
\nI am working on a company road map of calibers and weights and purposes and will make it public when completed.
\n
\nThank you all for you awesome support in our new venture!

\n Just got home from work and my 120 TMT were waiting for me! Can\'t wait to test these out on the 600 yard line! They look great, appear very uniform, they should produce some good scores!

\n Well I was finally able to get out and shoot the MKZ 120\'s. Today was 60 degree\'s, with my Chrony at 12 feet (ya I know it\'s a little far but I had to), AA2200 from 27.0-28.0 grain at a COAL of 2.290, 2.295, 2.300. Brass was SSA 3 times fired and annealed once with CCI41 primers. I use a 16" Wilson Combat barrel that is usually slower than other comparable barrels (50-80 fps slower), and I was shooting prone with a front bi-pod and rear bag. My accuracy is measure Edge To Edge, I know this is not how most people do it, but this is how I measure my groups.
    \n
\nPlease don\'t load up a 28.0gr round and think it\'s safe to shoot from your rifle. Work\'em up and be safe.

Yea I like the speed too; and only having a couple of years experience loading bottle neck rounds but starting to think 50/60 fps don\'t mean much anymore..\n

    They are by design to.
\r\nIt all comes in to play.
\r\nIt\'s a fine line between to many grooves that increase drag and spoil BC and the right amount.
\r\nThe cavity, the rounded grooves, weight forward CG, bore blast reduction all come into play.\n

\n Default report on 30 cal load data\n

    \n \n\n\n \n \n
    \n
    \n
\n just an FYI for those looking at loading the 30 caliber 168grain CBB
    \n
\nSomeone else is trying to work up a load for the 168CBB in a 308w and -' + '-' + '-' + '- he tried to use book data for same weight lead core bullets and came in over pressure -' + '-' + '- he then tried load data for a 168 barnes bullets and seems he is now in the right charge weight range
    \n
\nthe 6.8 CBB have been using book data for like lead core bullets and been OK, not sure this will be the case for all of the CBB
    \n
\nJust remember guys, start low and work up-' + '-' + '-look for any pressure signs-' + '- use a chrony to see if you are in the correct vicinity of speeds, and be careful and good luck\n

\n Tagging on for the latest updates. I finished opening up the front of a PRI mag today. I can now pretty easily load five rounds. I loaded up five of the 120s in my 270AR out to 2.34" with 36 grains of 8208. I\'ll see how they shoot tomorrow. My chrony crapped out on me so I\'ll have to wait to give some velocity numbers. I ordered a new one today from Midway.\n

\n If I were to load the 105\'s at 2.26", would I expect much of a performance gain at all over a 95 gr TTSX at the same OAL? This is out of a 16" barrel using A2200.\n

The shortest I recommend loading them is 2.28 or 2.285. As the ogive will start being inside the case mouth after that. At that length they will fit in any mag except a Barrett.
\nYes you will see improvement over a 95 TTSX at 2.28. My bullets have less engraving friction and a higher BC. They also expand more.
    \n
\nMy bullets are designed to fit loaded at mag length but not SAAMI length. They also show great improvement loaded long. All reports so far have them running 75 to 100 fps faster than a comparable weight bullet, across both 6.8 and 6.5.\n

\n How do you think these would do at higher than your listed speeds? I think I can get the 120s close to 3100 and the 105 over 3200 I just don\'t want them to go poof if I shoot a deer at 50 yards.\n

They won\'t go poof, they could just loose petals over the listed speeds. The petals will come off causing a substantial wound channel and the body of the bullet will continue straight thru. The 3 petals will radiate outward but stay together like 3 small bullets themselves.
\r\nXman shot them at 3000 fps and experienced this.
\r\nUnlike a lead bullet they will not disintegrate.\n

\n I was trying to get an idea of how they compare to other bullets for muzzle velocity.
\nFor example, I have found that GMX and Barnes monolithic bullets usually run about 100 fp\'s slower than lead core bullets at peak pressure. How do the CBB compare to lead core bullet speeds at max chamber pressures?
    \nFor example, from a 125nbt I get almost 2900 from my 16" 308, but I can only reach 2800 with the Barnes 130 and mk319 bullets beefore I see pressure signs.\n

In every instance so far they have run faster than a comparable weight lead bullet. The cavity effectively gives another grain of case capacity.
\r\nThe engraving friction is lower by design as well. I won\'t say how I\'m doing it but will say it was Harrison that pointed me in the right direction on that part.
\r\nThey are also stabilizing better than software says they should in slower twist barrels.\n

Thanks, the extra case capacity won\'t help me in 308 (or 270 win or 30-06) as I\'m hitting max pressure with the powder charges I am at without really compressing powder much if any-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-the one thing I have been trying to do with my 308 is push the bullets faster out of the 16" barrel as I loose considerable MV compared to a 22" bolt gun-' + '-I have tried quite a few different bullets, and also 1/2 a dozen powders trying to push them as fast/accurate as I can with regards to staying under max chamber pressures.\n

    \n Default 270AR - 120grn MKZ & AR Comp ladder\n

    \n \n\n\n \n \n
    \n
    \n
\n Tested the Cavity Back 120grn MKZ in my 20" ARP 270AR.
\nThis bullet in my chamber touches the lands at 2.334-2.335".
    \n-
    \nUsing:
\n - Lapua 6.5x47 brass converted to 270AR, fire formed & sized brass measures 1.365-1.366" at datum using B375 tool.
    \n- CCI BR-4 primers
    \n- AR Comp powder
    \n- CBB 120grn MKZ
\n- 2.290" OAL for this run...
    \n
\n3 shots only per charge test. Waayyy more than Xman\'s normal test .
    \n
    \n34.4 grns - QL estimates 2847fps, Oehler 35 chrono reads 2851fps, ES26, SD13.
    \n34.7 grns - QL 2869fps, chrono reads 2877fps, ES12, SD6.
    \n35.0 grns - QL 2891fps, chrono reads 2885fps, ES14, SD7.
    \n35.3 grns - QL 2913fps, chrono reads 2903fps, ES11, SD6.
    \n35.5 grns - QL 2927fps, chrono reads 2908fps, ES23, SD12...
    \n
\nThe sweet spot and accuracy at 2.290" appears to be 35.0 and 35.3 grns AR Comp.
\nNow to tune with OAL changes - but need to see the 6.8 120 MKZ\'s back in stock!

    \n THM is correct.
\r\nYou may lose petals on game up close and personal.
\r\nOnce you hit 100 to 150 yards and beyond it should be fine.
\r\nIf you do lose petals the devastation is still there, the core will keep pushing through. They don\'t come apart.\n

My guess is that he is very fresh to the 6.8 because he knew nothing about cut-out mags. I gave him the link to the Cavity Back site along with this thread because he also wants to load a lead free 115 gr. He will probably show up here with a lot more questions.

      Default Cavity Back Bullets Thread

I was asked by the mods to bring the thread about my new product over here while waiting for the site hosts/owners to get a hold of me for becoming a sponsor/vendor.
I was given permission to include our website.
      www.cavitybackbullets.com

We should bring all discussions on the product over here until such time as they contact me.
There is a thread in the bullets listings started for results of loads and testing.

Currently we have in the 6.8/.277:
120 grain MKZ (Maximum Kill Zone)
105 grain MKZ (Maximum Kill Zone)
120 grain TMT (Tactical Match Target)

There is another 6.8 bullet in prototype as well. Feel free to weigh in on what you would like to see.

      In the 6.5mm/.264 we have:
118 grain MKZ (Maximum Kill Zone)
105 grain MKZ (Maximum Kill Zone)

I am working on a company road map of calibers and weights and purposes and will make it public when completed.

Thank you all for you awesome support in our new venture!
