Have you tried using that .67oz titanium .30 cal brake on a 6.8? I'd like to know how effective it is.

If you have the time, please update. Great option at a great price.

There is one sitting my ARP 6.8 barrel now. It works great, maybe 20% recoil reduction while a good 2 chamber brake will do 30% reduction.

Default Mega Maten AR 308 Receiver Set Weight

Just thought I would add the weight of this set to this thread. Just received my Mega Maten 308 Receiver Set, awesome fit and finish as I expected. All weights were taken with Receiver Set the way it came from Mega (With Takedown Pins installed and Ambi. Bolt Release installed.)

Mega Maten Ambi Lower: 396.8 Grams or 14.00 Ounces
Mega Maten Upper: 399.8 Grams or 14.1 Ounces

Mega Maten Ambi Receiver Set: 796.8 Grams or 28.1 Ounces

My COMPLETE Xanthos lower weighs 18.60 ounces. The Xanthos receiver set was 16.25 ounces upper and lower, so about 12 ounces less than the Mega.

The big advantage of the Xanthos set is you can add a heavier 6.5/308/7-08 barrel and still be way under 8 pounds.

Faxon Arms has six to ten 308 barrels on sale 10% off that will easily make a under 7 pound AR 308 by using the Xanthos receiver set.

Hopefully I'll make up some weight with the barrel I ordered today. I ordered the 18" Stainless Fluted from Juggernaut Tactical you recommended a few threads back. I figured I'd give it a whirl. I've never owned rifle barrel with polygonal rifling, just know Noveske has great success with them. I'm just trying to keep the rifle under 8lbs

I have the same 18" jt barrel and love it. Receivers matter for overall carry weight but don't seem to bother me shooting just the weight forward- hg/barrel

Default I could finally have a 4.5 pound AR 308!

Faxon barrels has just come out with a 16 inch pencil profile barrel that weighs only 28.64 ounces. That is 2.64 ounces less than the re-profiled and shortened X-Caliber barrel I am using.

    I could finally have a 4.5 pound AR 308!

I remember how hard I had to work to get my 6.8 back in 2015 below 4.8 pounds.

    Default almost 2 years waiting

I have been waiting for some lighter weight components for the AR15 / AR 308 to come onto the market, almost 2 years waiting. At least the super lite 308 barrel has finally come out.

Venom Defense has a full carbon fiber pistol grip at only 2.1 ounces for a staggering $149.

The MagPul K grip started out at 2.2 ounces ( Gen 1 was 2.0) and I have carved out enough plastic from the inside that mine weighs 1.7 ounces.

Jofus has built one at 1.2 ounces, I need one BAD!! How about it Joe, one of your experimental ones?

Also waiting on a titanium/steel hybrid trigger, could cut more than one ounce off the 2.6 ounces of the SSA-E.

So with the barrel being 2.65 ounces less the upper would weigh 55.75 ounces

The lower with CF handguard would go from 18.6 down to 18.1 ounces

Total would be 73.85 ounces or 4.61 pounds. I have shot this rig with the polymer New Frontier trigger group @ 0.65 ounces so almost a full ounce less.

I need to get to 72 ounces to be at 4.5 pounds. Not sure where I could cut another 1.85 ounces.

Anyone cut titanium? Bet you could cut 1 ounce or more off the titanium bolt carrier.

Can't get the picture upload to work, but here's a link to a picture of my 12.5" KAK barreled 308 Xanthos SBR with a YHM Phantom TI. The 1.565" OD of the suppressor nests nicely inside the 1.7" ID Xanthos rails without touching.
