    Default JP Low Mass Carrier

Hi all. Very few search results on low mass carriers. Who is running one?
Going to build my new 6.8 w 16" arp scout barrel & bolt w JP low mass carrier, mid length gas and adjustable block. I also have the JP silent captured buffer spring w spring pack(of various weights). Goal is light weight and (hopefully) lighter recoil, and to function with a variety of loads-- factory and hand.
I feel confident rifle can be setup and tuned well, but question is reliability. I read one post claiming light weight carrier is not recommended. True? and why?
This is a sporting/hunting rifle so not concerned about life-staking reliability, but of course don't like broken parts.
    Recommendations on spring weights?
    Thanks.

Its like the timing on a car once set right you dont really gotta mess with it. You have picked out the appropriate components to run the rifle, provided they are adjustable enough, so there shouldn't be any issues. I say save your money and buy a standard carrier and put the difference into ammo.

He doesn’t worry about what workout to do — his rucksack weighs what is weighs, and he runs until the enemy stops chasing him. The true believer doesn’t care how hard it is; he knows that he either wins or dies. He doesn’t go home at 1700; he is home. He only knows the cause. What have you done today...?

Lightweight carriers are built for competition use for the reasons you mentioned. As long as you you tune your rifle to your ammo and function test for reliability you will be GTG. Carrier and buffer assembly weights can be tailored to certain shooting styles, as can gas ports. From pure speculation the sizes of gas ports and weights of carriers/buffers in military spec rifles are designed to run with anything you throw at it, while a competition gun may be a little more finicky. What you gain in reduced recoil, you may give up in ammo sensitivity. This is why I tell everyone, if your serious about shooting, you really need to load for that particular caliber. Then you can always tailor your load to your rifle.

Ronin: Check the discussions at the rifle technical section of brianenos dot com for more info about JP's low mass configuration. Those 3-gunners shoot 5.56 rather than 6.8, but they have definite opinions about the pros and cons of this set up. Their objective is speed - split times, double taps, etc. For hunting its first shot placement that counts most. After researching the subject, you may find the JP low mass set up is more trouble than its worth, even some of the 3-gunners feel that way. - CW

I have a similar plan to.

Low mass carrier, carbine buffer, standard/or tuned spring, 16" arp scout.
I have a pri adjustable gas block and I am curious if there's a better one. does anybody male an adjustable gas block that will hold its place with some kind of 'click n lock' set-up?

I have one of these, but it leaks through the set screw. It does not loose adjustment, but I could not tell the difference as I made adjustments. I also don't see how it can't leak around the threads. Maybe I did something wrong.

Can you please, pretty please, elaborate on the unit(s)?

If yours works great, and woodrw77s doesn't, maybe theres an easy fix issue...and the information should prove beneficial.

Woodrw77, is there any leaking around the unit itself?

RoninISC, a lightweight carrier set-up shouldn't pose a problem in a semi-auto. There's several factors to consider in a project like what we are doing.

...time and tinkering will gauge and tell if its worth it I guess.
