I wouldn't think it would work with more than a few rounds, but why would you want to try that?
Curious if anyone has put 5.56 in a 6.8 magazine. Do they feed correctly? I haven't pulled rounds out to check myself...was wondering if anyone had experience out on the range.

Looks like someone is looking for an excuse to justify a trip to the range !! :lol:Originally Posted by rob3220

I've been wondering this same question. If they work that would be great to know...and if they don't work, will a simple change of the follower allow them to work...or are there other dimensional differences that would prohibit this?
Excellent question by the OP, thanks!

Why do it? well instead of keeping track of the mags to prevent ^.8's in the wrong mag.... just buy one type of mag and use for either guns!

Well, since no one had an answer, I went ahead and attempted using a Barrett 30 round 6.8 Mag. Rounds load a little flatter, so you can fit about 34 rounds in the mag, maybe more. I hand cycled a few rounds and pretty much every round gets caught on the feed ramp.
I know no one would really do this, but I was curious since you we all know you can feed about 5 rounds of 6.8 in a regular mag.
Bottom line is obvious: don't mix your mags and ammo!!
Thanks for the info!

i have a mix of 556 and 6.8 mags in all colors and configurations, I personally spray in orange paint 556 on my 556 mags and 68 on my 6.8 mags in one inch letters... it isn't super tactical I guess but if people come to the range with me they can easily understand the difference and i am not on my belly stalking through the jungles so a ittle orange paint wont give me away.

This ribs are shallower so the thinner 5.56 are spread out more when feeding. That is asking for trouble.
