Haha. I've found this to be true for myself as well.

Since 70Duster now has his scope (hope you don't mind me asking here 70Duster)... I just have to know... What is the "box test"?

    All the best,

Also called shooting the square. You shoot a group and then move say, up and left 12 clicks then shoot a group, then move it right 24 clicks and shoot another group, move it down 24 clicks and shoot another group, move it left 24 clicks and shoot another group, then move it up 12 clicks and right 12 clicks back to your original settings and fire a group on your original group. If the other groups are exactly say 3 inches apart and the last group is exactly on top of the first group then your scope passes shooting the square or box test.

I got the standard duplex. I don't foresee shooting anymore than 100 yrds with it.

That is a lot of ammo!..what does it tell you after you already have it sighted in the first time? Just curious to learn something new.

It tells you that your scope has quality repeatable adjustments. What this does is let you make adjustments for long range shots using both elevation and windage and then you know that you can return your sights to your previous zero and it will be on.

A lot of people just use Kentucky windage to make long shots.

Thanks, as a short range shooter all that distance is out of my realm of understanding. I have always shot in TX and FL, LA and MS....so I bet the longest shot ever taken was 200 or less yds. For 3 years at my lease about 75 yds is the max so you can see distance shooting and long range accuracy are not high priorities. In fact sighting in at the range when I get to a 1 MOA I am happy as even I can hit an animal at 100 yds or less sighting in MOP..minute of pig! LOL

The main thing you will find with cheaper scopes, is that if you do decide to make adjustments, they may not return to your zero if you reverse what you did. I bought a viper because I like to use different ammo for different things and want to know that the scope is going to be repeatable and I won't have to shoot every time to verify zero. Box test confirms this. Others also like to use the same scope for different calibers. Switch the scope, adjust the x and y clicks, and you are good to go!

ETA: Glad you are happy with your new scope! New toys are always fun!
