Here's the bullet:
It entered in front of the shoulder and went to around the middle of the ribs on the other side. The bullet was facing into the hog. So I guess it would've tumbled.
The petals were folded completly back..
Shot the sow, while I was recovering the bullet (120 SST) I had the headlights on and all the babies came up to me. Got two.

good going Colby, the bullet looks good
I wish I could've found the lead core. I forgot to look..
the lead probably ended up in pieces
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it only penetrated 12(or so)inches and at some point in its terminal ballistics it completely lost it's sinker soft lead core ??
Is this pretty typical of the Hornady 120gr SST's ?? Would it be a fair assessment that as the jacket peeled back and slowed down the heavier lead core squirted out the front and continued it's penetration(somewhat) ?? --- pruhdlr
EDIT to ADD: I have never used the Hornady 120gr SST's to kill a hog. My bullet of choice is the SSA 85gr TTX(Tac). The 120gr SST's have killed tons of hogs. My question is....all in all.....have the 120gr SST users expierenced a number of hits and the hogs are lost ?? I am asking this as a meat hunter NOT a hog eradicator. Any way you(I) look at it,an immediate separation of jacket and core ......"just aint right". ---- pruhdlr

This is the bullet from the last hog I shot. Also a 120 SST....I could not find the lead core but, it did it's job.

Unless you are worried about biting into the lead core, or something to that effect, dead is dead and the 120 SST did its job, no matter if the jacket separated or not. IMO, the SST's are effective and economically priced and I am more than willing to deal with jacket separation than spend another $15 for the same result.

Between Hornady marketing their "ZOMBIE AMMO" and some of their bullets the ol' man would turn over in his grave. This is not a bullet bash. Use whatever works for you. I would agree with "dead is dead"....just wondering if anybody has ever talked to Hornady and what their response to their own add for the SST line would be. -----> "An Interlock ring keeps the core and jacket together for controlled expansion and maximum weight retention."
Sorry Colby..?..great shooting, great pics, and great that you get out and slay 'em. --- pruhdlr
