SSA's current price for 115 OTM bulk pack 250 rd boxes is 196.25 or .785 cents per round.

Pick up the once fired brass and sell for 30 cents each + shipping (which you should easily get)

    .785 - .30 is .485 cents per round.

Now why buy steel cases for .50 cents a round?

I can't see doing so unless you can't pick up your cases at your range or you were shooting a course where they won't allow you to police your brass.

I'll just stick with SSA ammo and my reloads unless they are in the 5-7 dollar range for 20 rounds for the steel cases.

I wouldn't worry too much about that U.N. treaty. It has to be ratified by a 2/3 vote in the Senate before it becomes legit. They can shut down import/export anytime without the need for that treaty, assuming they get the votes and can pass the bill. I don't think they've got them. In any case, it won't happen before the election because the Democrats won't go anywhere near gun issues before then, and if they lose it'll be a moot point. The obvious solution is vote for NOT Obama!

UPDATE: Just heard on the news that the U.S., Russia, Cuba, and Venezuela all opted out of signing off on that treaty. That pretty much kills it for this year as far as we're concerned. 51 Senators (bipartisan group) also sent a letter to Obama saying that they would NOT ratify any treaty that infringed in any way on American citizen's 2nd Amendment rights.

Cheaper Than Dirt had some good deals on 62 gr. in one of the last two catalogs I got. Don't remember the price, but I remember being surprised it was so cheap.

Their cheapest .223/5.56 ammo is 55 gr Tula...and it is $4.39 / box or $219.50 + shipping...and its out of stock.

    300 AAC Blackout Chambering Cancelled:

Some time ago, Savage announced it would be chambering the Model 10 Precision Carbine in 300 AAC Blackout. Since that time, we have tested many variants of this cartridge in various barrel lengths and rates of twist. This exhaustive testing left us quite unsatisfied with the accuracy we were able to get from the subsonic loads in this chambering. Accuracy with the lighter, faster loads in this caliber was actually quite good. But we believe the real value in this cartridge lies in the use of subsonic loads for suppressed rifles. Therefore we have decided to scrap the project.
It is our understanding that pushing these heavy, slow bullets presents challenges not found in typical loadings and that our experience is not unique. Subsequently, many in the industry have simply adopted a lower standard for accuracy for these subsonic loads. While this does seem reasonable and we don't criticize any in our industry that have taken this approach, it just won't work for Savage.
Our brand was built on accuracy and we are too protective of our reputation for building the most accurate factory rifles available. We would rather walk away from this opportunity than sell a product that requires an explanation.

That's my point. Even if you plink, ammo burn, or train, it is still cheaper to shoot SSA bulk ammo if you can pick up your empties and sell them online. If you can't pick up your brass, then, yea, I could see going steel. If you can pick up your brass, why send your money to the Russians? Why not support an American company that makes a superior product (and is cheaper to boot with the sale of the brass cases)?

Since I have found out that Tula is going to make 6.8 ammo, I have supported them also by buying about a half case of 223 and 7.62x39 respectively.
