    Default 7.62x40WT LOAD questions

Getting ready to order my barrel for my 7.62x40 WT project. I have a few load questions. First, is Remington 7 1/2 primers all you guys used to test? I have cci41's but i do have access to bench rest primers, just not Remington. Second, went to my local gun shops and they did nit have AA1680. Neither did the gun show. Am i stuck with just using H110? Will AA2200 work? Third, is there and huge difference between the Wilson and Noveske barrel as far as accuracy? Lastly, any load info on 147 fmj's? Since i will be temporarily losing my 223, this rifle will be needed for my 2 gun competitions.

H110 and AA1680 are the tried and true preferred powders. H110 will be fine, but when you can get your hands on AA1680, you should give it a try, it is the better of the 2 powders for mid length gas barrels. I don't believe AA2200 would be optimal for 762x40WT, but in the" Epic 762x40WT Thread" on ArfCom, there are some guys starting to play with that powder. Don't worry about the primers, we like CCI400's and Remington 7 1/2's, but you will be fine with other brands.

Regarding the barrels, I don't believe you will see a difference in accuracy,.....either will be fine, but the good discount on the Noveske built barrel is a chance to get a really nice barrel at a discount.

I don't have any data handy for 147 class bullets, but I know of guys running them for plinking rounds, so it should be a easy load to work up( Use H110 for bullets in the 150 range)!

Ok. Now that i have my barrel,i need to start working on my loads. I got the 18" barrel which seem to like 1680. I can't seem to get this powder locally. Is there any other powder that you guys have tried that i can use that will function in this barrel? Not really looking for screaming velocities as thus is my dedicated hog rifle and 80% of my shots are less than 50 yards.

1680 is really the way to go for your application....check out Powder Valley for your needs.
