Like said before that's why I do stuff myself and BTW who said the guy was a gunsmith ? moron might be a better title. First why would a smith let substandard work out of the shop and second what business man wants to pizz off customers ? He loses on both accounts.

yup lots are armorers not gunsmiths. Diff being, adding "accessories" are jobs that armorers can do:scopes, sights, rails, assembly based procedures. If it includes machining, or custom part manufacturing, or metalsmithing it is a job for a certified gunsmith. Which will cost big$$$

Kind of like the diff between a medic and a surgeon. Both are important, but one is vital for expensive stuff.

You sir have a job for a home armorer. The gunsmith prob didn't want to do anything at all.

Some Old Timer smiths contract out some of the work and that would be why there was not an immediate resolution. Someone else comes in 3 times a week and they were not in at the time of pickup.

You should ask if this work is being contracted out and that would explain the delay in service and the upcharge for a 15 minute job.

Surgeon, gunsmith, armorer, garbageman, ditch digger... You contract to do a job, do the job and do it right. Don't get me wrong, I agreed to the price to install a gas block, and I have no problem paying for it, but damn. If you go to have the brakes on your car worked on you kinda expect that the wheels taken off in the process are going to be put back on and the lugnuts won't be falling off anytime soon.

I'm going to refrain from naming the shop until I give the owners a chance to make it right. If they won't, it'll be out there loud and clear. Thanks for all the support everyone!

By your description, the guy may not be familiar with the AR?

Yup, a chit-chat with the store owner is in order, giving a chance to make it right. You paid good money for the job to be done right.

Sounds like a joke. This guy doesn't care about his customers or is incompetent as a smith.

Quick update: I spoke with the owners and they agreed to fix it. Took them 3 days once I got the upper back to them. The brake is closer to properly indexed, but still a little off. I'll just buy a damn vise block and finish it myself. Don't think I'll be taking another job on an AR to them in the future. Bolt gun or shotgun, maybe... Oh well, you live and learn.

By the way, I'm really liking the Syrac adjustable gas block. Works as advertised and the locking mechanism is very easy to use and very positive in locking. Good product!
