Default FS 18" Kotinics Barrel and Bolt SOLD

SOLD I have a 18" chromed lined 1/11 6.8 SPCII, made by Tim Hicks of Kotinics/Cardinal Armory, which are the same specs that Ben of Bison Barrels carried forward when Tim folded. Barrel pass the drop slug test which I borrowed from Kerry. Will shoot combat loads. This is a good shooter at around 1/2-3/4" MOA. Round count is about 450. Barrel is Cera Kote Black. Also includes the matching Stag 6.8 bolt (MP) tested that will go with the package only. Not going to separate. So don't ask.So $175 shipped pay pal gift or +4% regular pay pal

The problem was with the chrome lining. Some of the barrels had thick chrome lining and a pin would not drop thru the barrel. If the pin drops thru this barrel like the OP says then its good to go. I have a kotonics barrel and they are very accurate.

    Robert,

Do further research and you will find that fewer than 10 barrels out of several hundred were found to be undersized.

I personally bought 28 Cardinal / KoTonics barrels and inspected each one using precision Z series gage pins to find that 26 were within spec and two were below the low limit by .0001" and .0003" respectively. Keep in mind that the barrel tolerance for minimum bore diameter is .002". The dimensional variation of the two "undersized" barrels was insignificant to barrel performance. I still have both barrels and they both shoot .5-.8 MOA.
The KoTonics barrels are some of the most accurate I own.

Ask Chris Lucci (HTR) from Wild River Ranch about his 'undersize" Kotonics barrel. It is one of his favorites that he claims he will never sell.

There WERE undersized KoTonics barrels sold due to over-plating but they were a VERY small percentage of total barrels sold. If the barrel has been gaged and found to be between .2700" and .2720"....you are GTG.

    300 AAC Blackout Chambering Cancelled:

Some time ago, Savage announced it would be chambering the Model 10 Precision Carbine in 300 AAC Blackout. Since that time, we have tested many variants of this cartridge in various barrel lengths and rates of twist. This exhaustive testing left us quite unsatisfied with the accuracy we were able to get from the subsonic loads in this chambering. Accuracy with the lighter, faster loads in this caliber was actually quite good. But we believe the real value in this cartridge lies in the use of subsonic loads for suppressed rifles. Therefore we have decided to scrap the project.
It is our understanding that pushing these heavy, slow bullets presents challenges not found in typical loadings and that our experience is not unique. Subsequently, many in the industry have simply adopted a lower standard for accuracy for these subsonic loads. While this does seem reasonable and we don't criticize any in our industry that have taken this approach, it just won't work for Savage.
Our brand was built on accuracy and we are too protective of our reputation for building the most accurate factory rifles available. We would rather walk away from this opportunity than sell a product that requires an explanation.

Like I said Owen or Kerry I simply do not know enough about these things to feel comfortable with purchasing this item. By no means a reflection on anything except my lack of experience so I feel more comfortable dealing with what I know.

Not a problem at all Robert. In your situation you did the right thing.

Unfortunately whenever the subject of Cardinal or KoTonics barrels comes up, many negative second and third party "hearsay" reports surface that do not reflect the facts surrounding Tim Hicks and his barrels. The situation was blown out of proportion to the actual problem and contributed to Tim losing his business. This was especially sad because Tim was a VERY honest and ethical person who's only mistake was relying on a vendor to provide him 100% inspected barrels. When that vendor failed to do so, and allowed a small quantity of out of spec barrels to end up in end user's rifles, Tim ultimately paid the price for the vendor's mistake.

    Default 6.8mm 1:11 barrel

I have a NIB Cardinal Armory/KT barrel that I bought in October 2008 and am not going to build the rifle. Any idea what it would be worth ?
