This is the grave of my brother-in-law, Sonny Bourne, Corporal, USMC (Ret.), a Vietnam veteran and Purple Heart recipient, who we buried with full military honors in Feb. 2011. No headstone, no marker, nothing to identify that a hero lies beneath this sand in coastal SC.

How did something like that even happen?
All the family needs to do is vontact the VA and they will give him a head stone. it has to be requested though.
RIP brother! This man deserves a monument! I'd get on the VAs ass!

As I pursued this I learned that a headstone was ordered, but his spouse and son did not follow up with the marble cutter. They live outside of Dallas and haven't visited the cemetery since the funeral. Sonny's sisters are checking into the problem. Thanks for the info on the VA program.
