Great pic, Frank. I can just imagine sitting in your tree stand, deciding which hog to harvest for dinner. An endless supply of pork for me and all my friends and relatives. An excellent way to introduce new hunters to the sport and the ethics of "eat what you kill", or at least feed them to the coyotes (do they have coyotes in FL?). - CW

Default UPDATE Thinning the Herd "The Double"!

Forgot to charge my phone before hunting so I had just enough battery to send these pictures.
Anyway I have been going to this little place for a few months and something would always go wrong, but last night all the stars aligned and the night was good for hunting.
I had been putting corn out in this area for the last month or so and due to various reasons only had the opportunity to harvest one hog. After the first hog was harvested the hogs knew that a green light meant death. Every time I had the opportunity to go hog hunting I would come back empty handed. Frustrating to say the least. Well I decided to put my game camera out to see what was going on out there and to get the hogs use to having a bright light on them. It worked and they did not fear the flash of the camera.

Fast forward to May 27 and I could make out at least 12 hogs a on the camera. I had been throwing out corn everyday since then and the pictures on my camera was showing good activity.
Yesterday my friend and I head out around 7:30 to the area that i had been baiting with corn and we had his vehicle parked 66 yards away from where the corn is. We have it setup for a clean shot down this aisle of orange groves. I load up my 6.8 with my hand loaded 120 ssts 26.6grs R10x, SSA brass #41's 2.285 2446fps. Then we play the waiting game. The hogs have been showing up between 9:15-9:30ish. After it starts to get dark I start to have some concerns because I am still having issues seeing my reticle in the dark (leopold firedot will be on my dedicated hog rifle) but the moon is almost full and rising. I figured if it rose high enough it would illuminated the area where I have the camera set up and it would be a done deal. We waited looking down the orange tree aisle and seen a flash, which meant the hogs (or the bear...lol) was there. Well it was the hogs and they showed up at around 9:45, game on! So my buddy look though the bino's while i look through my scope. Every few seconds I could see the flash from the camera going off, however, I forgot to have my camera take a 3-shot picture which would have giving me more light from the flash. I can see the hogs through my scope and I can see my reticle when I am looking in front of the hog on the ground, however, I am having issues with my reticle on the hogs together. I have my green light mounted on my 6.8 but I am scared to shine it down on the hogs for fear that they will run as they had previously done when shining the green light on them. I remember a thread about the green light scaring the hogs away and I took some advice from that thread. So I start with my rifle in the air turn the light on and slowly bring the light on the the hogs, they did not run. I could breathe easier but was still having issue with where my cross hairs are, only option is to stalk up a little closer. We stalk up to within 50 yard and even though I can see my reticle on the hogs I decide to get a little closer. 40 yards and everything is perfect, no wind, the hogs are thanking someone for providing them with food, my 6.8 is getting antsy. I think the hogs feel our presence because a few of them start to move around a little and not concentrate on the free food that I provided for them. I pull my rifle down from the air one more time, green light means go, aim for this boar right behind the ear, gentle squeeze the trigger and the 120 SST just plows into the side of the boars face. Well the 120 SST did the job as it exits the side of the boars head it is not done and enters a sow.Yeap, the two for one special, and I think my game camera caught it all. Since she was quartering away I got lucky and hit her heart and the bullet stopped at her right inside shoulder. I have a partial recovery of the 120 SST. I will post pick of the action if my camera caught it. I love the 6.8 SPCll!!!!
