    Default Suppressor Suggestions

Well i almost have my cash together for a can, so i need to start think which one to get. Obviously avaliability might be a issue. I plan to build a sbr with a can and make this my night gun. So i will probably run a 12" arp. So my question is which suppressor would be my best choice? O i also want to keep the rifle as light as possibe and still be quite enough to avoid waking the neighbors.
Next time you go to the range make some money. Just catch or retrieve your 6.8 brass and sell it.

Here are my favorite 3 cans, after shooting about 14 or 15 centerfires.

    1) Wilson Combat Whisper. This can is short, light, suppresses very well, has a brutishly simple mount, that does not require timing, and the brakes can be put on any threaded rifle with a flat wrench.

    2) the AAC SDN-6. Now that I have shot one, I must say I was impressed. I don't personally favor the Blackout or Brakeout mount, but that's just me. Overall, a damn good can. Should work well on .30, 6.8 and 5.56, too.

    3) the Sure Fires are great cans. The mount is a little more complex, requires some timing, but overall, super tough and reasonably light.

HTR i was looking at the wilson and would you suggest the 6.8 cal or the 30 cal for versatility. The aac looks pretty good to.

If you have a .300 BLK, or .308 you want to suppress, go with the .30 can, either the Whisper or the SDN-6 will suppress anything smaller caliber.

I have a .30 Whisper and a 6.8 Whisper and they both sound the same to me on 6.8, and mine are both 12" barrels.

Wassman sorry to Hijack your thread. But question for HTR. I am going to make this plunge within the next two - three weeks and I pretty much have it narrowed down to wanting a Whisper or AAC-SDN6. I don't currently own a .30 cal and will most likely just be using it on 6.8 and 5.56. I am going to be doing an SBR 10.5 in 6.8 as well. Could you recommend one or the other? Or would you say I would be fine either way? Also will 10.5 in be ok with the can? I am liking the length and the weight of the whisper but I am just having a heck of a time finding any real reviews on them other then yours.

The Whisper uses a brake that is sepcifically designed for SBR's. The brake acts as the first set of baffles, thus protecting the blast baffle on the can, and allows for a shorter can with more suppression. The mount is ultra simple, requiring no teeth (you never know when AAC might go from an 18 to 51 to 90 to 130 tooth ratchet ).

If you never shoot FA, the Ti Whisper is all you need, and yes, its going to be fine on the 10.5" barrel. Wilson Combat's warranty / CS has been 100 % solid for me. That said, I have also heard good things about AAC's willingness to warranty their cans.

Would you be fine either way? Yes, provided you like the ratchet-type mount. If you do go to Wilson Combat, be sure to tell them Wild River Ranch sent you

Thanks for the input HTR. I hoped it helped you too Wassman. I think I might give wilson combat the business. I just love that it only adds 4 inches to the barrel. Still soem time to think though will have the rest of the money next paycheck though.

Any mentioned will be fine. For a QD, I prefer a mount such as what Gemtech offers. The WC Whisper Ti looks nice but I haven't played with one of those yet. It being short and light looks like a nice package to hump around in the woods with.

I went with a TBAC 30P-1 since it will be on a LR bolt gun and several ARs.

I will be using mine on all the above more then likely. Don't have a 30 yet but plan on buying one shortly for sub loads.
