Live 5mls east of Tecumseh, work at Will Rogers ANG. Where you at?

One of the earlier versions of the open carry bill had a lifetime and military lifetime liscense at a reduced cost. Has anyone heard if this is in the final version?

You might want to call the Gov office and voice your support. Her office says she has 5 days to sign the bill which basically means by Thursday. The bill made it to her desk late Friday but I'm not sure if they count that day.

I support the bill. I believe it also has language that protects people who openly carry on their own property (even in urban areas) without having a CCL. It changes the CCL to a carry license without the "concealed" monicker.

I know the governor said she would sign it (along with campus carry if the bill ever gets voted on), but I've been watching the local news channels and they are actively trying to sway public opinion against the bill by using scare tactics, interviewing LEO/union leaders who are opposed, etc. I won't believe the governor until I see her sign the piece of paper in front of her.

FYI, I won't open carry in public or out in my yard for tactical reasons. I'm not willing to forfeit the element of surprise or let all my neighbors know I'm a gun owner. However, it will be nice to not have to worry about printing anymore.

I just called in my support.

Byrd I'm from Lawton. I don't know anything about a lifetime license. That would be nice.

Fallins receptionist says they are tallying the for/against phone calls. She needs to be reminded that she has stated publicly on several occasions that she will sign the bill if it makes it to her desk. She needs to know we will remember it on election day if she goes back on her word!

Thanks Ron, sounds like that guy was pressing the limits of reasonable open carry to me.

Good luck to all you guys in OK. I hope your Gov follows through on her promises and signs the bill.

Yeah carrying in your hand is a lil different than a holster. I dont have a CCL but I've planned on getting one. I couldn't carry to work since the SP's at Tinker would have issues with that...lol. I like that it'll open up the law n if you accidentally show/ print whatever you won't be breaking the law and that you can openly carry on your property as well. I don't believe the day it was on her desk (friday) counts, it showed up on here http://www.oklegislature.gov/BillInfo.aspx?Bill=sb1733 showin it got on her desk monday. I called and voiced my support for it.

Open carry - but many people, particularly in urban settings frankly "freak out" when they see any kind of firearm, I would choose not to do so there.

Carry conceal also has issues. Spokane LEO, when they pull over someone who has a CCW permit and is carrying, will handcuff and place in their patrol car the holder of said permit, while writing a ticket or even a warning stop. I watched it happen last week with my son. He was pulled over because his tags were going to expire - next month. He told the officer as he approached him that he had a permit and was carrying - I watched the officer draw his pistol and direct my son to get out of the car, call for back up, relieved him of his firearm, handcuff and placed in the back of his car. My son was respectful and was not charged as he did nothing wrong (not a slam on LEO in general, but this officer also said my son was in violation of laws that require him to have a front plate - my anal retentive son quoted the relevant RCW's on why he didn't have one and the officer at that point said he didn't know and backed off this issue - this was a veteran police officer, not a rookie). If this is what I'm to expect from LEO here......and I'm legal in doing so.....what's the point?

This post is not in any way meant to be disparaging of LEO or make light of the hazards they face every day - I have dozens of friends in fact who serve or did serve in this capacity. My shooting buddy is a retired Deputy Sheriff from LA County who worked drugs for many years - even he doesn't know what to make of the officer I mention above.
I like my women just a little on the trashy side - but my rifles are squeaky clean!

It's those kind of actions that make lawyers a nessicary evil. I would think if you have the required permit, they have de-armed you, that the handcuff would be a bit of overkill. but hey that's just me.

RatTerrier- funny how working for and being in the military on a mil base, means that you get shafted more often than not on any kind of gun carring rights.
