Default Night Vision Scope for Intergral Ruger 77/44

Waiting on Form 4 approval on my SRT integrally-suppressed Ruger 77/44. The day optic will be an Aimpoint Pro.

I have a D740 Gen3 but plan to leave it on a longer-range rifle. With subsonic ammo this will be a <100-yard hunting rifle.

I have tried helmet-mounted NV with weapon-mounted IR laser and I can't shoot accurately enough for that to suit me. Given the 100-yard shooting limit and wanting a wider field of view than the D740, which of the following should give the best results?

    _ M845 Gen2 2.5x

    _ PVS-14 Gen3 with 3x magnifier behind Aimpoint Pro

    _ PVS-14 Gen3 w/o magnifier behind Aimpoint Pro

With the AR-15 height mounts for either of these I would have to add a cheekrest to the rifle. Is there a lower-than-standard mount for the M845? Is there a PVS-14 mount that will line up with the Aimpoint Pro low mount?

Assuming you're going to use the 300 grain XTP or similar bullet (you said subsonics) the rifle creates too many G's for weapon mounting a PVS-14, and you risk recoil damage. Even with subs, there is probably enough recoil impulse to do some damage.

Better options would be the M845 with a high HALO L3 tube (still unsure as to whether the tube would be warrantied if recoil damage occurs.)

Or the best option would be a mount that would allow a clip on like the PVS-22 or the new Mini Wasp, coming from TNVC soon, which should be in the price range of a D-760.

You could also get a LaRue QD mount for your D-740, and check the HALO on your tube. If its well above 1.0, your D-740 might handle the recoil. The QD mount are also made by TNVC.

I currently have one of these suppressed rifles and finding a picatinny rail mount that's long enough to hold a clip-on has been difficult. I eventually just went with an IR laser and helmet mounted PVS 14 because the shots I take with subs are 30-75 yards anyway. Its just a difficult rifle to which to mount NV.

I've got the same rifle. How do you go about figuring out how many G's of recoil a 300XTP at 1050fps generates?

Per ballistic calculator, a 62 grain .223 at 3025 fps generates 1260 ft/lbs of energy and 26.8 ft/lbs of momentum and a 300 grain XTP at 1050 fps generates 734 ft/lbs of energy and 45 ft/lb of momentum. Not trying to argue, I have no idea how either number translates to G's. I think G's usually have something to do with the object's mass, but hell, I don't know.

A guy named CJhawk on ARFcom has a great post showing the G's generated by almost all the calibers you can imagine. His post is / was in the Night vision forum.

HOLY HELL- a 44 mag produces 900Gs of peak recoil on a rifle that weighs 9 pounds?

Man I wish you guys didn't bring up this rifle. Now I have to add another one to the list.

Looked at the SRT website. This thing is a bit pricey. I do remember shooting HTR's when I was down there.
    That thing is fun.

I have three 44 mag carbines. with a full power load or even factory they will kick the living snot out of you. even the one semi auto. I also have a 94 in 45 colt carbine, with Contender type reloads it has stout recoil. If a pvs-14 will only handle a 223 your asking for trouble on a 44.
