Default Am I legal to own a rifle with 12" barrel if I have a concealed carry permit?

Am I legal to own a rifle with 12" barrel if I have a concealed carry permit?

I am in Washington state and I have a carry permit. Can I legally own an AR with a 12" barrel or do I need another permit? Do I actually need a class III permit to own a 12" barrel AR?
I know this varies state-state but I was curious if there is a general answer to this question.
    Thanks!

No, you will need to get a Tax stamp for a SBR

Or take off the stock and use a pistol buffer tube and call it an AR pistol...

In order for a AR pistol doesn't the lower need to be registered as a pistol and it can't have ever had a stock attached?
Got it out of the catalogue when I was with D.C. SWAT. We called it "Gucciflage"

Not necessarily. If you build it from a stripped lower, then that is transfered to you as an "Other" which is neither rifle or pistol. You can then build whatever you want and use it as a pistol until your SBR stamp gets approved.

It doesn't vary from state to state because a rifle with a 12" barrel is a National Firearms Act (NFA) item that is controlled by the Federal government along with Short Barreled shotguns, Suppressors, Explosives and "any other weapon" (AOW). Your carry permit just gives you the ability to carry a pistol concealed, and those rules do vary from state to state.

Basically if you own a rifle with a 12" barrel you own an unregistered SBR and are in violation of NFA. Put a pistol buffer on it PDQ and hope like hell the ATF doesn't read your post here.

Can be a lower with a stock, as long as it never had a barreled upper on it . . . ATF letters at ARFCOM is the source.

USED to be it had to be a stripped lower, no longer the case.

I don't like AR Pistols, so I don't have or intend to make one. Just an FYI

Federal Law = get a $200 tax stamp, OR make the lower into a pistol, as long as it has never been a rifle (by attaching a barreled upper to the lower).

ETA: While carrying a 12" pistol AR sounds really fun, you are certain to attract the wrong kind of attention.
