Wire brush out the paint/coating, go to your local auto parts store and get a can of Metal-2-Metal metal reinforced body filler, smear on, sand down, paint it and enjoy! Because the body fillers that bond well to aluminum only come in 1 qt and up sizes, expect to pay $45-180 for the body filler, and another 6-10 for the hardner. Cheaper body fillers (fiberglass resiens and puddys) will not stay when you fire the gun, they will pop out. You would need the much more expensive metal bonding fillers or you would be treating your gun daylie/weekly/monthly depending on how much you shoot.

If it bothers you that much, start saving up and find anouther lower, much cheaper and easier.

The JB Weld has the same problem bondo would, if you cant get it to bond to the metal it will not stay on the reciver after firing more than a few rounds. Vibration + (Insert cheap body filler/epoxy)= not sticking and/or cracking.

I wouldn't attempt removing it on mine because having a screwed up finish would bother me much more than having 5.56 stamped on it.

I think your best option for the money is to save for a new stripped lower and put your parts in it. Then sell the 5.56 stripped lower to recoupe the cost. Another option is to have an engraving/machine shop mill out the marking and engrave a new one. But then you have a small pocket where they milled it off.

The cost of the proper filler material, sandpaper, paint, etc. is too much $ and risk compared to a new stripped lower.

I agree with buying a multical lower and selling yours. Probably get more since people like lowers that aren't in their name.
