    Default Buffer wear

I have started to,notice buffer wear at the bottom of the buffer. This is a piston gun p308. I have read that is one of the problems with a piston weapon. Would a harder spring keep it down. It ejects fine no problems. As always thanks for the info.

It is from carrier tilt. There are a few systems designed to eliminate it, but they are major components. Just keep it lubed well and consider your buffer tube a wear part.

If the carrier tilt really bugs you or if the buffer wear becomes severe (noticeable metal shavings floating around), I'd recommend heavybuffers.com....if it's not horrible sand it a little, repaint, and lube.

I think PWS developed an "enhanced buffer tube" to help resolve carrier tilt issues in piston systems.

I would have mentioned that but I didn't think they had them for big boy AR-10's.

PWS offers.308s. The product list on their website says "PWS Enhanced Mil-Spec Buffer Tube for the AR-15/AR-10 Series Rifles. Fully supports carrier from closed to open." I couldn’t really say as I have no direct experience with them - just adding an option to the brainstorm.

    Hi,
I have some of those polymer supplements and they do reduce the tilt but not totally so you still see erosion. I found the following link to be a smart solution but the 308 is not out yet and I have not tried this yet and they do not do or discuss any other long term issues (if any) but I found interesting nevertheless. So in the smaller ARs one tube has 4500 rounds and doesn't seem so bad so I figured, I can change the carriers and get new ones after I test one of course or simply replace the tube one time or two during the service life of the rifle. http://blackriflearms.com/main.sc
The tubes are not expensive and preventive maintenance in long term calls for other parts.
    I hope this helps.
