Exactly what I was thinking. There would be no reason to get a Grendel if these numbers are true. The grendels biggest advantage is almost gone now

I forgot to add. My guess is, it's a tangent ogive w/BT (G5) to fit in 2.3 mag & still have full power.

    But, Jack-O is probably right & it's a G7 Berger VLD. Although, .487 is the G1 BC.

If its 2.295" it will fit in a PRI mag.

This is a great thing. I had to load the 135 SMK out to 2.385 just to get them to properly seat in the case.
That BC will extend the range quite a bit.

Any word on when these guys are coming out? In my quest to find "the perfect theoretical round" , I might have just found it. I'll just have to see how they jump out of the old pee-shooter.

Will the ARP 3gr 1-12 twist SAM-R barrels stabilize this round or is 1-12 to slow of a twist for such a long bullet?

I would sit down and figure it out my self but I am soo burnt out from my 7.92x57 projects and family stuff right now I can't think strait LOL

Berger recommends 1:11 twist for both their 130 & 140 gr. .277 bullets and 1:10 for their 150. Quickload shows the 140 Berger's length to be 1.236" which is shorter than the 135 gr. SMK 1.265" measured length. The 135 SMK's are stable in my 1:11 barrel even though the JBM Stability calculator shows that combination to be 1.166 @2500 fps which is below the 1.3 minimum. The calculator shows the 140 through a 1:12 twist to be 1.087 @2500 fps, so stability will be marginal, but I would certainly try it.

From a 18" I would guess the velocity will be around 2,500 FPS. With the 1-10 the round is still super sonic pass 1,000. We loaded then out to 2.295 so you need to have the right mag.

This 140 gr. Berger is a VLD hunting bullet that is reported to have too much penetration on deer, but excellent on elk. At 2500 fps muzzle velocity, it will be a legitimate 200 yard elk load:
