    Default New Sub Forums

You may have already noticed the new sub forums. There is still some ironing out taking place so please be patient.

It was requested and now we have dedicated handgun and long gun sections. Also, there is an Alternative AR Caliber forum for those other cartridges (that's right, the 6.8 SPC isn't a variant ).

Thanks to all of you that make this such a great place. Hopefully, as we attract more people like yourselves, the right structure will be in place to make this forum an even better resource for the 6.8 SPC and beyond.

Looks good. But please keep this place mostly about the advancement of the 6.8 so we don't turn into the melting pot and then into barfcom because we got to broad.

Thanks for the Alternative AR Caliber sub-forum. Found myself visiting the other "place" for my recent 7.62x40 upper build.

All parties involved are looking to keep the primary focus on the 6.8 There is no desire to make the forum anything other than the acknowledged center of the best, most complete and most accurate source of 6.8 information on the net.

But we also realize that 6.8 owners own different weapons as well and when questions arise it's nice to confer on other calibers/platforms with people you know, respect and trust. For that purpose the rearranged layout can best address those needs.

    300 AAC Blackout Chambering Cancelled:

Some time ago, Savage announced it would be chambering the Model 10 Precision Carbine in 300 AAC Blackout. Since that time, we have tested many variants of this cartridge in various barrel lengths and rates of twist. This exhaustive testing left us quite unsatisfied with the accuracy we were able to get from the subsonic loads in this chambering. Accuracy with the lighter, faster loads in this caliber was actually quite good. But we believe the real value in this cartridge lies in the use of subsonic loads for suppressed rifles. Therefore we have decided to scrap the project.
It is our understanding that pushing these heavy, slow bullets presents challenges not found in typical loadings and that our experience is not unique. Subsequently, many in the industry have simply adopted a lower standard for accuracy for these subsonic loads. While this does seem reasonable and we don't criticize any in our industry that have taken this approach, it just won't work for Savage.
Our brand was built on accuracy and we are too protective of our reputation for building the most accurate factory rifles available. We would rather walk away from this opportunity than sell a product that requires an explanation.

Oh I definitely agree with that line of thinking.

I like the new set up. My primary focus in firearms all my life has been bolt actions and big bore lever guns so its good to see a sub form just for the long guns. I am still very new to the 6.8 (in fact I dont even own one yet) but I am glad to see I can come here for my 6.8 info and still talk about something I know a little more about like the bolt and lever guns.
