Default Ever have one of those days?

Well, opening day of elk season was interesting. Tramped around the forest all day, but only saw a couple of coyotes during the day (one less coyote in this world - he got within 75' of me and didn't see/hear me - guess I'm sort of quiet in my still hunting mode). At the end of the day, walking home, took one last glass in the dusk down the power lines - saw a herd of elk about 1/2 mile away. Too far for a good shot (couldn't even really tell if there were any bulls, so it didn't matter anyhow, the dark was closing in that much), and too far to quietly get in place for a good shot. Garrr! Oh well, looks like I'll have to spend some more time hunting.

It has been one of those years for me. Deer season closed for me and the next day elk season opened. I had hunted deer pretty hard for about a week and never did see a buck but did see several elk. Opener of elk season came didnt see any elk but did see 2 buck mule deer.....go figure. The day after bull season ends and cow opens I see an nice 5 point.

At least you know where to go tonight.

I feel your pain Doug. Went back tonight - nada. Guess I'll have to keep going back until the end of elk season (good thing it's only about 15 minute walk from the house).

Well, went back again. Right before dark the herd came out - within 150' of me! Saw a bull, but it was dark enough, even using binocs and a scope, that I couldn't tell how many points (need a minimum of 3). One cow came within 50' of me, saw me, got a bit spooked (set off the herd), then settled down.

Forgot to mention, one of the difficulties in determining how many points was how much my hands were shaking! Talk about buck fever.
