He doesn't seem to drop by very often. Too bad. I'd been hoping that he would answer Clint's question:

Uh...ARDEC did a comprehensive caliber study using two types of identically constructed bullets across multiple calibers from 5.56 mm to 7.62 mm last year--the results were briefed at one meeting, then promptly restricted...

Clint: IIRC, 115 gr and 130 gr.

Can I guess the winner was .277?

That seems to be implied by his earlier post:

"The .277 diameter projectiles offered the optimal performance characteristics."

But, that "comprehensive" test omitted .264 and .284 bullets...

Sorta right. Maybe just terminology. Forget about bullet dia. It's bore dia that is causing confusion. It was nice & simple untill someone, supposedley a german invented riflling. Bullet dia will be pretty close to groove dia. When u discuss caliber it means the bore dia. The dia of the smoothbore barrel before it is rifled. Thus a 30 cal is bored .300 then u cut ..004 deep riflining in it for .308 groove dia. It uses ..308 bullets. But it's a 30 cal. .300 bore.
