Default Help on a 3-9 scope?

All, I've narrowed down to a couple options in my price range (assuming I'll have to add about $100 for a Burris QR PEPR mount) for my Armalite 6.8:

    http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct...la=ProductDesc - $300

    http://www.cameralandny.com/optics/v...texviper3-9x40 - The $175 version with V-Plex Reticle

No link, but found a "blemished" (cosmetic) Leupold Mark 2 Tactical 3x9 for $320.

Planning on deer hunting in the fall, but shooting paper until then. Looking for something reliable out to about 300 yards.

Any pros/cons/recommendations? Others I should be looking at? I'd like to keep the scope at around $300 due to the other $100 needed for the Burris PEPR Mount (unless someone has another recommendation on that one).

    As always, thanks!
    Jon

Of the ones you list, hands down, I'd opt for the Vortex Viper. I have the 2-7x32 in that series and am extremely pleased with the clarity/brightness of the glass, and the groupings I'm getting with it. Great value there. Also... I'd opt for the new QD PEPR over the older one (which came out a month after I bought my pair of PEPRs).

Thanks for the quick response! I am leaning that way due to cost and reviews. Any thoughts on the V-Plex reticle (Vs. their BDC) as a problem/disadvantage?

On the PEPR, is there a different part number to distinguish? Here is what I am eyeballing: http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct...la=ProductDesc

Thanks again, and love the avatar/picture.

Vortex makes a nice line for the price range. I'll second that notion as I am happy with mine.

Reticle is a personal choice thing. If you choose to learn to use them... the BDC dots can help you with the amount of hold-over for varied distances, and for the amount of drift for a given wind you're shooting in. You need to decide for yourself which is "more gooder" for your use.

The link you have for the PEPR is the new QD model. I don't know whether the "old" version is discontinued, or whether they're going to continue to offer both.

I have the Weaver you linked above - and for the price it's a good scope - there is a "but" in there. The glass is not as bright as I would like to have - it's ok, but in low light conditions? Like some I've fired on - not so much. I have no experience with the Vortex line, so I can't comment on it. I will be looking at higher end scopes for my next optics purchase - something with lighted reticle and FFP.

I've always had good luck with leupold. The Mark AR is a great scope in 3-9 plus you can have them make you a custom elevation knob to take most of the guess work out of shooting at 300 yds.

Thanks all, I think I am going to give the Vortex a try. At $175 seems like a good deal. There is a store right down the road that keeps Mark AR's in stock, so I can always go there if disappointed. Think the PEPR QR mount is the way to go? I'd like to do the Larue, but its twice the price.
