    Default Introducing the 7.62X40 WT

    http://www.wilsoncombat.com/762x40wt.htm

The Practical .30 Cal. AR-15 Solution

Available now from Wilson Combat - The 7.62x40 WT (Wilson Tactical) is an all new powerful .30 caliber cartridge solution for the standard AR-15 rifle platform that is inherently accurate, low recoil and only requires one unique part - a new barrel. The 7.62x40 WT works with all other standard pattern 5.56 AR components and is completely reliable with the new Lancer® L5 AWM magazines as modified by Wilson Combat.

Ideal for Hunting and Tactical Use

The wide range of available .30 caliber hunting bullets makes the 7.62x40 WT an ideal choice for hunting of medium to large size game with the downrange ballistic performance only a .30 Caliber projectile can deliver. Experienced shooters will be pleased by the match grade accuracy and terminal effectiveness and energy easily exceeding the 7.62x39 Russian, while novice shooters will appreciate the mild recoil and low report.
Tactical shooters looking for a hard hitting, fast handling, practical .30 Caliber AR-15 service carbine will find the 7.62x40 WT a viable alternative to the 5.56x45 for self defense and law enforcement applications. With 18/19 or 28/29 round capacity using Wilson Combat modified Lancer® L5 AWM 5.56 magazines, maximum firepower is retained.

Components, Loaded Ammunition and Complete Guns

The 7.62x40 WT cartridge is based on a standard Lake City 5.56x45 NATO/.223 cartridge case that goes through a simple shortening and reforming operation to achieve appropriate cartridge dimensions. Wilson Combat has reloading dies, case gages, cartridge cases, handload data and a variety of loaded ammunition to fully support this caliber.

A complete lineup of Wilson Combat 7.62x40 WT rifles, uppers and match-grade barrels are also available now.

I think Wilson should stay with the 6.8 instead of trying to one up rem. when all they have to do is see the loyal following of the 6.8 instead of looking at profits from ammo. The guys in the sandbox knew an engineer at rem. and said hey we need more punch. So the story begins. However we're talking about Mr.Wilson I guess I'm just Dennis.

    Dennis,
I also answered this in the thread in GD, but understand, we are not abandoning anything, especially the 6.8! Nobody is bigger fans of the 6.8 than Bill and the rest of the crew at Wilson Combat. We build, load, shoot, and hunt with 6.8's. We support the cartridge with parts, uppers, complete carbines and loaded ammunition.....I don't believe there is any company in the WORLD that supports the 6.8 to that level!

The 7.62x40WT is a totally different project, that is intended to be a .30 cal solution for folks that want more on target performance out of a 5.56 AR platform, with minimum new components needed. You must admit, it is showing some pretty good numbers for a .30 cartridge out of a 5.56 case. But it is certainly not up to the performance of a properly loaded 6.8 SPECII !

Hopefully, one day we may be able to realize profits from BOTH cartridges, but with the investments we have made, it may take awhile!

    Thanks for your interest,

If someone has a .300BLK or .300 whisper style barrel, will they be able to be "reamed" to match the x40 capabilities and performance as speced by WC?

There is an extensive thread on ar15.com on which billw indicates that yes, wc will ream whispers/b-o's to 40..

Thanks Bucky. I don't frequent ARFCOM much. Too much to read through, and I save my Data for Tapatalk and 68Forums

Looks neat. Real handy for those with *lots* of .30 cal boolitz laying around. Some 1x 5.56 milsurp brass, a little handy work and presto. Hmmmm. Seems a prime candidate for supressed work.

The market place will be the decider on whether this nifty new wildcat will stick around. By using as many AR parts as possible, certainly makes the round inviting to try. It will be interesting to see how this performs on hogs and deer. Who knows, bullet manufacturers might jump in and make a new one just for this critter...

Innovation is what I love about this country. Maybe we'll see a modern version of the .30 Rem developed from 6.8 knowledge...6.8 bolts, mags. Interesting.

Agree with Rockhound, however, I see many of my friends moving to standardize their loads for economic reasons

Would this round be as easy to load subs for as the 300BLK? I'm going to get one of them, and whether or not it can be subsonic will be the deciding factor.

    imb,
You certainly can load the 762x40WT for subsonic use. We brought out this round after extensively testing the 300BLK, and wanting to improve its supersonic performance. The 300 BLK is great for subsonic use, and if that is you overriding concern, that cartridge will serve you well. If, however, you want outstanding supersonic ballistics, and secondary subsonic use, we feel the 762x40WT will be a better choice.
