Default Which powder for SHORT barrels: Lil' Gun, H110, other?

I've heard that Lil'Gun generally runs lower pressures for the same velocity, but that pressure spikes quickly and suddenly when you reach that threshold. Also heard that Lil'Gun seems to be temperature sensitive. However, Hodgdon claims it has "20+ years" of development over the H110. Whatever that means.

For short barrels (7-8"), is there a consensus on a preferred powder: I would like to maximize velocity from the short barrel (don't need absolute max, but faster than Ramshot X-Terminator would be nice), and I value temperature insensitivity. Should I also be looking at Reloader 7?

The same powder that gives the best velocity in a long barrel will give the best velocity in a short barrel.

    RE7, 4198, 4227, 296, lil gun, H110, Norma 200, most of those burn 95% in a 8" barrel
I set the parameter to 58,000psi with a 110gr bullet, thats why is says dangerous load out to the right.
charges are in the low 20gr range.

    Constructor: thanks!!

I know the charges would change for a 90-grain pill, but would the '% burnt' change?

I would also imagine that the velocity 'kings' would also reign for the 90-grainers as well?

    Cool--thanks.

I had heard that, despite H110 and W296 *supposedly* being the same powder (which doesn't appear to be the case from the performance models above), that H110 seemed quite sensitive to temperature changes.

Anyone have any experience as to the temperature sensitivity of any of these top powders, esp Norma 200, W296, or RE-7?

quick load give data based ont he powder burn rates they have. those two powders may actually be the same, but it wont show in QL due to different data.

you wont know for sure unless you try tho.

Norma 200 looks like it's a winner in any event. I know in my computer loading experimetns for the 6.8 that powder always seems to be in the top 3 for velocity and lower pressures and case fill ratio.

Ramshot exterminator is another one to look at real closely too.

I've read a lot of interesting things about the H110/W296 "problems", and have come to the conclusion that they are the same base powder, but they may have different chemicals added to control flash/tem sensativity, etc etc etc. The loads and performance are all 95% matchups between them, however...
