    Default 6.8 SBR for hunting?

I just finished setting up my Ar-15 SBR. I am running a 12 inch WOA SPCII, 1:11 twist and 85 grain SSA tactical loaded TSX. I have a chronograph coming in late this week so I can test the SSA tactial loads and see how much velocity I am getting and work out my range limits. 95% of my shots are within 100 yards and I have had plenty of luck with my 16 inch 6.8 pushing standard loaded SSA 110 TSX. Took a nice 10 pointer with the 16 inch 6.8 at 80 yards.

Anybody use a short barrel 6.8 to hunt with?

Great lookin' pair-o-sticks, and deer. HTR uses SBRs for his hog huntin' as I recall... I'm sure he'll sound off soon enough.

I am chomping at the bit to take this rifle out and get it chrono'ed. This will be my first time ever chronoing a rifle and I am very excited. I hope to hunt 90% of the time with this rifle. The scope looks overwelming on the rifle but it handles very well.

I do a lot of my hog hunting with a 11" 6.8 SBR using either 95gr TTSX (2450fps) or 110gr TSX (2350fps), it gets the job done..............

The 85 grain TSX tactical averaged 2987 FPS out of my 12 inch barrel at 10 foot.

No idea on a 7.5 inch barrel, but it would be interesting to see what SSA 85 grain TSX tactical or commercial would do out of that barrel. I was getting reliable cycling and 2878 FPS in my 12 inch barrel using SSA 85 grain TSX commercial, plenty enough for shorter range hunting. 2987 FPS with the 85 grain tactical load, but was short stroking constantly.

The 85gr TSX cycles great in my 7.5" but I've never chronoed them and I've never used it for hunting. Should do fine with a 95gr TTSX though. I'm guessing between 250-300 yard effective range which is beyond the range I'd use it at. Of course, I have other options that will work and are less controversial. Seriously, if you were a typical 5.56 shooter and were familiar with what they ballistics of the 7.5" barrel in the length are, what would you think of someone hunting with it?
