    Default Cat M4 and D-Fender D Ring

I'm reading the current February magazine "Book of the AR15", by Guns and Ammo. An article by Patrick Sweeney, "A Word to New AR Owners" he references 2 products:

    1. Cat M4 - a cleaning tool
    2. D-Fender - an extraction enhancer.

Both sound like "must haves". Has anyone had any experience with these 2 products? Your comments/thoughts are appreciated.

Never heard of the Cat M4 but the D-fender is a rubber "o" ring for your extractor spring. If you really want to try one just go to the hardware store and get an o ring that will go around you extractor spring. At least that way your wallet won't get raped.

    Hey Doug,

The CAT M4 is here: http://www.catm4.com/

I don't think I'd put either of those items in the "must have" category.

I've seen the Cat cleaning tool. It's basically a carbon scraper/ bolt carrier cleaning tool. There are alot of cheaper/free items out there to scrap carbon. I use an old dull , small blade pocket knife, and one of those brass inserts out of a stripper clip. Make sure whatever you use is dull so you don't carve a finger off while scraping !

The Dfender, is as ANG stated, an O-ring that goes over your extractor spring.( actual Dfender is shapped like a D, but O ring produces the same results)
If you go to your local auto parts store etc.. to get one, make sure it is heat and oil resistant.

If you aren't haveing extraction problems, I wouldn't worry about it.

I use a old .223 case wih the mouth crushed to scrap the carrier.

As far as the D ring. For a bolt parts upgrade go with the BCM bolt upgrade kit or you can get them from ARP website as well. I dont think they are the D ring perse but I would trust those two sources to get parts from.
