Im planning my first hog hunt in March and using my 460 S&W. Ive been loading Barnes 200 grn XPBs and and Hornady 240 grn XTP Mags to about 2200 fps each with good results. Which would be the better choice for hogs!
Barnes a pointier profile but still a hollow point

Hornady a blunter profile ,deeper , larger hollow point

Thanks Mike
just get some hardcasts, cheap and they work
a 250g hardcast out of a 44 at 1200FPS will punch clean through and elk...
I use a 255g Kieth style SWC at about 1250 out a 6" smith 44
I aim low center of shoulder and it punches clean through both shoulders breaking them and taking out the heart
they will run 40 yards but that's it... no different than hitting with a 308 through the heart

Sounds like the Lyman #429244 over Unique or 2400. I have dropped several deer with it and I know of several elk and at least one bear. The hardcast lead bullets in the Keith style are very overlooked for this type of stuff in IMO. I have seen reports of them going through deer from south end to north end and a lot of rifles can't do that without premium bullets.
In a .460 S&W though you have to make sure the bullets are very hard as the velocities used can cause leading if they are not hard enough.

Thanks much guys ,some enlightening info! I'm never disappointed when I ask a question around here!
I could recommend Cast Performance if going that route. I havent hunted with handgun but I have used them in my 44 mag rifle with velocities a little bit faster. And they hit like a ton of bricks. Out of a Ruger they blow fence posts away.
I kind of feel like Tackleberry in Police Academy on the firing line when I shoot them.

Not real familiar with that caliber so I was just guessing.
So sounds like it is a .45 acp and colt

Montana Bullet Works also make some good gas checked "wide flat nose" cast bullets. That bullet and W296 is what I'm using this year in my 41 mag. They were a lot more accurate for me than Gold Dots or XTPs.
