Headed out Tuesday evening to try getting on the hogs - and recover from not seeing any hogs the previous night.
The weatherman says we have a storm coming, and radar on my phone confirms the inbound weather,
eta 12mn-1230am... Plenty of time - I hope.
-
My feeder is set to run at 930 & 11pm - so I am in place to watch for critters.
930pm feeding goes off, and in walks a single hog.
-
It is dead dark out, no moon until about 1220am, cloudy, and wind is favorable in my face - 20-24mph.
Close the distance to approx. 45-50 yards, and get set up.
The boar was broadside, but behind the feeder ladder. Beautiful neck shot opportunity, but I wanted to test the Cavity Back MKZ with a frontal chest shot and recover the bullet.
-
I have nearly 14 minutes of video on the SD card - nothing frontal for the test.
Finally gave up and took a quartering away shot, recovering the rear of the bullet and a single petal from the opposite front quarter. The MKZ shed all three petals...But, dead is dead.

I have now designed the 125 grain 30 Cals into 2 different projectiles.
I suspected you were loosing petals at the speed a 30 Herrett can push it.
Although as you said, dead is dead.

Here is the new 30 Cal for the 30 Herrett, .308 etc.

You can still use either however the new harder top projectile will not loose petals in the 30 Herrett.

So far, I have killed (only) 10 hogs with the 125grn MKZ from my 30 Herrett AR.
No complaints from the hogs - they're dead. No complaint from me either - I like dead hogs!

Gotta love a dead hog... even with the needed tweak, still killed it dead! Nice hog down.

When the pedals on the MKZ do break off, they are heavy enough and carry enough energy to cause significant trauma though vital areas.
