So my buddy went out and recovered a game cam that was put out in July to monitor our hog hunting area.
He emailed me these pics today
Our hunting place is a little north of College Station, Tx.
Well all I can say is that I was shocked at what I saw on the Camera. Still wondering if he is messing with me.
Last time we went hunting I saw gator tracks, but I assumed that my buddy had a gator foot and was making a few tracks to mess with me.
Either way, Glad I have a 6.8
Hunting the area just got a whole lot more interesting!!

Do you guys think the 6.8 could handle one of these? And I mean one shot, DRT... I thought I read where they usually suggest a minimum of a .30 cal weapon.

No ****?! that's crazy... he must be after the piggies.
I got this in an email, dunno who's cam or even where it is... but how would you like to see something like this at one of your feeders?

The bigger question is could you make a good shot on this guy?
I know if would be hard for me to shoot while screaming like a little girl and running the other way lol

ROFLMAO. just make sure you out run at least one other person then you don't have to worry about it.
A 6.8 could probably take the gator but trying to get the shot for a DRT is another thing. Dont you have to get them right behind the eyeballs? With that you would almost have to be standingover it and unless I am in a tree stand ain't no way.
Now the cat would be a different story another case of out running the slowest guy. :a28:

I mostly hunt South Central Texas and I've been in Texas since 1996 and have Never seen a gator.
But I have heard that they are more common in S/E Texas.
I know that Texas allows hunting Gators so they must not be too uncommon http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications/pwdpubs/media/pwd_bk_w7000_1011.pdf
Something tells me that my buddie is messing with me.....but that certainally looks like one of the feeders on his property and the pics don't look altered to me.
Still hard to belive

I believe the pictures, especially if y'all have the Brazos or Navasota running near your place.

Ya dude, lots o gators down on the gulf coast in the brazos river delta. I seen quite a few while duck hunting down there.
Hunting gators? I'd just run up and pull a Steve Irwin, but with my 6.8 in hand. That'll get yer adrenaline going, lol!

I think I'd be incredibly ticked off. And hopefully it would be legal to shoot either at some point.

He has a large river (100 foot or more across) that runs along the edge of his property, not sure of the name of the river (might be called Little River) but it feeds into the Brazos a mile or two from his property.
We usually go to the river to swim and cool down mid day when were hunting in the hot summer months...Although I doubt you'll see me in it again Lol

That's what the 25rnd mags are for... scream, run, bang bang, rinse repeat...
Seriously, the 6.8 shouldn't be a problem on the big lizzard. Got a friend who catches them for meat and belts and uses a .22 mag to put neat little holes in their head to minimize hide damage. Same friend also found out .22LR doesn't penetrate gator skulls, but goes through human shoulders ok (rrrwwwoowwwnn (ricochet)... oh ****.... NEXT DAY "What happened to you?"... "Don't ask.")

Personally, I'd love to go on a cougar hunt, but I'm too old for some of them :a01: Anyway, I remember reading an old Outdoor Life article about hunting cougars. They used hounds, which is a lot harder than you'd think it would be. Anyway, they shot the cougar with a .22 lr to minimize damage to the pelt. They aren't as tough as you think they are, but I'd take at least a .223 with me.

my dad used to hunt gators in South Texas
the Aransas River, Tivolii area, etc.. have a lot
they would do stupid stuff like sneak up on them and wack em over the head with a hammer
I have heard lots of funny stories
they found that a 38 158g wadcutter between the eyes would just "put them to sleep"

Gators in Texas Common?
Gators are all over Texas now, but especially east Texas (consider Coon Creek Club, for instance, they're covered in gators), and even down in Christmas Bay by Galvetraz.
All you duck hunters keep this in mind. Your Lab probably doesn't need to get tangled up with one of those lizards.
