Regarding military history: For any who might be interested, on pp. 74-76 of the August issue of Special Weapons there's a short article on the evolution of the battle rifle, from T3 Garand to M14. (It's an excerpt from the book I wrote on the history of US Army small arms and ammo development.)
For those who haven't seen them, below are some sample pages from the book (that I scanned for use in seeking feedback, and for queries to publishers):

The proportions are the same as 8.5x11 paper, should anyone wish to print 'em.

What about the combat shotgun, and the Frag12 round? Anything there?

No. I omitted shotguns, submachine guns, and sniper rifles. Focus is on the primary standard small arms: rifle, machine gun, and pistol.

There seems to be ample material out there about most military weapons, but the combat shotgun and PT boats are two fields that seem to be lacking... Know of any good/reputable links?

A history of the military pistol would be interesting... But that's just me!

Nope, I sure don't. Was interested in PT boats when I was a kid, and read what books were then available, but haven't paid much attention to the subject since.

I was really "into" combat shotguns about 15-20 years ago. Did several T&E articles on different guns, and a variety of ammo. Even owned a USAS-12 for awhile before they were classified as destructive devices.

In books, The World's Fighting Shotguns, by Tom Swearengen, is good reference material, but very outdated now (IIRC, it was published in 1979). Tom was working on a second volume, but never completed it before he died about a decade ago. I lost interest in shotguns about the same time, so haven't been motivated to look for info on the web.
