Is there a group buy here by chance (I didn't see any mention of one so I'm assuming there isn't)? Can I get on a mailing list with SSA? My understanding is that they are not taking any pre-orders.
Any info is appreciated. I'm looking to pick up 2K rounds.

Well, As far as I know, your best bet is going to be to log here on the forums and check a couple times a day, and to check the SSA website daily. Thats what many of us are going to have to do.

Thanks for the input. I've been trying to do that....but I seem to keep missing all the "deals" when they come up.
Thanks again,

If you are a registered customer with them they sent out periodic emails, but I agree I haven't heard about a number of the smaller specials. Hopefully the plinking round will be big enough news to send an email out.
I second checking the website and this site. Either you'll find it and let us know, or someone else will notice it and tell the rest of us. They posted in another thread that they had the projectiles and were just waiting for the powder to proceed.

I am hoping SSA does the right thing and limits quantities at first. There is a lot of pent up demand for this. If they don't, then I am afraid those of you who are willing to click on the website every hour and the group buy folks are going to purchase everything up. Unless SSA has a larger manufacturing capacity than they let on, or some other plan, I fear this will be the case.
Perhaps an SSA representative will comment.

OK folks, just talked to Nancy--and it's true, she is just as nice as everybody says. Here's the latest as of 2 minutes ago:
Plinking round slated for late May, and for probably a week or so before it is available there will be an announcement on the SSA website to the effect of "come back on May XX to place your order." She had started a waiting list a while back but they can't deal with the kind of volume of requests they were getting.
I mentioned to her that limiting order quantities has been proposed here, and that it would allow them to serve more customers (not to mention spreading the demand out over time, rather than creating a boom-bust cycle for ammo sales like we see coming). She said that hadn't been discussed, but it sounded like that might be an idea that she brings up to management. I for one would be willing to place a modest order (say 1K rounds max) in hopes that it would allow a couple other new shooters like myself to get enough ammo to play around with--it would benefit the caliber and community in ways others have discussed, IMHO. I also think about guys overseas who might not be able to get their order placed on Day One and who might get put on a long waiting list as a result of everyone ordering 10K rounds the first day.
Is anybody else out there willing to consider a gentleman's agreement to order modestly at first, so as not to buy up all the production in one day? Or am I just thinking silly thoughts?

We can agree all we want. but there are other people that watch SSA that don't belong here or will find out and jump all over it plus dealers that will grab to put up for sale to gouge the price. It will have to be a decision fromm SSA to limit availability

That's a good point....just b/c we agree doesn't mean other folks will order by the boatload.
The only way to limit this is for Silver State to limit the purchase amount, IMO.

I did tell Nancy I would pass along that info so that she didn't get 100 phone calls from us over here...but, it probably would help a lot for her and others there (particularly Art!) to hear our opinions on this. So, please take a minute to call or write them if you agree with the notion that limiting orders would be a good idea.
Now, I haven't heard anyone play devil's advocate--are there any good reasons NOT to limit order sizes? Other than the obvious, of course--such as SSA being able to sell a month's production to a handful of clients. I'm thinking of benefits to us, the end users and those here who've developed this caliber and deserve to have as many folks as possible buying their excellent rifles...and having a little ammo to shoot through them every now and then!
If someone had the clout to buy a ton of this stuff, what would be their profit margin? They might be able to make $3 a box for a limited ammount of it, but the 6.8 market is a small one. Most of the ammo I've bought from other shooters has been for less than the listed price. So I can't see resale as a motive to buy a bunch.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, why limit sales? At almost $14 a box, its still not cheap enough to blaze away with. I shoot 300 rds a month of 6.8 and thats probably more than most of the guys on this board. I'm probably only going to order 500rds to see how it shoots. If it works well I'll buy more, but I'm buying primarily for the brass.

The only person who has the answer to the plinking ammo dilemma hasn't spoken up, to my knowledge.
I spoke to SSA a couple of months ago and got the definite impression that the "money" ammo was going to take precedence over the "cheap" stuff for some time to come. I'll be surprised if that changes any time soon.

Ron techniacally she is my accountant and book keeper as well :D
She is a good catch, and she gets planty of compensation for it, I try not to let that stuff cut into the ammo fund to much though :D

I know what you are saying. I went to a gun show yesterday and got a couple of things and then spent over twice as much on the wife before I headed home and it wasn't cheap. Of course this doesn't count all the other times she has spent more than I have. :)

Okay...back on topic: Has anyone heard or seen anything lately about the 6.8 "pinking" ammo?

Art says they have hundreds of thousands of projectiles but waiting on the powder. I think that was in another thread today. If I run across his response I will add a link to it if I can.
