I am looking for a FAST scope to mount on my Remington AR-15 for deer drives in Wisconsin and have narrowed my search down to the Swarovskki Z6i 1x6x24 EE vs. the Nightforce 1x4x24. My questions are:
1. Both the Swarovski Z6i 1x6x24 EE & the Nightforce 1x4x24 have a F.O.V. of 100' @ 100 yds. The difference being the eye relief as the Swarovski has a more forgiving eye relief of 4.72" vs. the 3.75" that the Nightforce 1x4x24 gives you. I was thinking that with bulky warm clothes being worn in the cool fall Wisconsin weather, the extended eye relief might not be a bad thing to have. BUT...
1a. During deer drives in Wisconsin, I get rather warm during the drive, so I have a tendency to strip off a few layers of clothing. This being said, the Swarovski Z6i 1x6x24 (WITHOUT the extended eye relief) has a F.O.V. of 127.5' & both the Nightforce and Swarovski have a eye relief of 3.75". Would it be worth it to gain 27' F.O.V and sacrifice 1" of eye relief?
2. Is a 27' gain in F.O.V. more beneficial than the 1" of eye relief I would be losing????
3. Is it worth the extra $1000 to get 2x more zoom????

I have looked hard at the Nightforce, they are reported to be very tough but glass not in the same league as a Swarovski...

do you shoot nose to the charging handle?

The Swarovski is reportedly one of the best optics available and I have heard good about the Nightforce but do not have firsthand knowledge of either.

My comment is that if I understand powers on optics correctly then the 1x6 is acutually closer to 1.75X5.5 than the 1X4. If I have it right the powers work to the power of 3-4. Consider that scope powers are generally 3X9, 3X12, 4X12, 6X24, 3.5X10, 4.5X14, etc.

If the idea of actually getting to the 1X is very important this may be an issue for you.

Each scope is different. Some scopes have a 3x zoom, such as a 3x9 scope. Some have a 4x zoom, such as a 3x12 scope. Some have a 5x zoom, such as a 5x25 scope. Currently IOR and Swarovski are the only two companies I know that have the 6x zoom scopes. The Swarovski Z6i is a true 1x6 scope. Trust me, I have one. For a while, some scopes that were labeled 1x4 scopes weren't really 1x4 and were more like a 1.1x4 or a 1.25x4 scope. That is not the case anymore and most scopes are labeled properly now, especially the good scopes. There is a company that is supposed to be releasing a 1x10-42 scope.

As far as the Swarovski 1x6x24 EE vs. Nightforce 1x4x24, the Swarovski beats the Nightforce in every category except the turrets. And that is saying something because I think the Nightforce is an excellent scope also. The Nightforce has better tactical turrets, but they are not as easy to re-set as the Swarovski.

I knew you would be along soon :)

I really want to get my hands on the new Trijicon TR24 1-4
