Okay, I am looking in the not to distant future to building / buying a 6.8 upper to swap out on my RRA Varmint lower. I am looking at the 6.8 to fill in the gap in the event I get a security gig where the 5.56 is the norm, but if I need the extra power, I'll have my 6.8 available. Instead of bringing a second rifle in 308/30-06 for the specialty stuff.

With that said, are there any considerations by any of the bullet-smiths out there to make any specialty rounds, like tracers or AP?

Thanks in advance.

There are AP rounds that SSA makes but your agency has to order them

Tracers I dont think are being made right now, and until the .mil switches a belt fed over to 6.8 I dont see a need for them.

The 6.8 seriously needs the following bullets:
1. A good 110 Gr. BTHP bullet with a BC of .370 or higher and a standard ogive unlike the hornady 110 Gr. Bullets.
2. Cheap 90 Gr. FMJ/BT bullet for plinking.

I''ll second that, except to say a 90gr range FMJ with a deep cannelure, and over 3000fps if possible. Would make a great military round, and overall FMJ practice rd.
