Don't seem to see laser sights used. Are they still used by some or frowned upon these days?

Well, if you ask 100 people, your gonna get half on each side of the fence. Most knock them because in any self defence scenario, the laser will give your position away. My personal opinion is I plan on putting one on my build when Im done, but as a rifle that I plan to patrol with, accuracy will be highly important to me, because of pitfalls of missing and the liability that goes with it. One thing that I am still at a quandry about is where to mount it. In my opinion, the best location is on the 12 o'clock rail, with the 6 o'clock being second best. To me, the 3 and 9 o'clock rail positions are out because they would throw you POA/POI off left to right and up and down. At least with the 12 o'clock position, your only concern should be and inch or two high or low depending on distance. Downside to 12 o'clock, prevents use of BUIS at the same time. So go to your second option, which would be the 6 o'clock. Down side, freaking standard sling attachment would get in the way. I do need to research a good sling attachment to the rear of the handguard. Anyone have any good suggestions. Other downside to the 6 o'clock is that it doesnt mesh well with the bullet drop/rise to 200 yards.
All that being said, I havent completely made my mind up on how im going to set my patrold rifle up yet. I plan on using either an aimpoint or EOtech with flip magnifier. Weapon light and VFG on 6 oclock rail, and somehow figure out how to mount the laser on the 12 o'clock rail. Still a slight quandry because plan on using F/R BUIS as cowitness with reddot sight.
The other advantage for using the laser with law enforcement is that if the bad guy sees the laser on him, it may make him change his mind and out his weapon down before he gets on the wrong end of a .277 hole.
BTW, a completely stupid Idea for a laswer settup on a rifle, would be a SBR/AR pistol with no optics or Irons, but just a laster on top of receiver, zero'd in. Go to town rambo style shooting from hip.... hehe!

I use a laser along with a pair of PVS-7D when hunting at night for hogs.

The Streamlight or Surefire flashlight/laser combo are some of the better ones out there. I think lasers are great tools if used properly.

There is a company making a picatinny rail peice that mounts over the barrel ahead of the FS tower...but if you don't have a front sight tower...hmmmm. Can't remember who offhand.

What I have thought about doing is mounting the laser to the Railed gas block, and putting the BUIS on the front of the hand guard, but I just think that would look tacky

I like having a green laser on my carbines and handguns but not necessarily to aim the gun i have used them fore EOF ( Escalation of force)
many times they scare the $*!# out of the people in Iraq. The laser i have is a laser max green pulsing laser the pulsing makes it essayer to see in day light but it pulses in such a matter it can be used as a less then lethal weapon by shining it in someones face it disorients them and counts as EOF in the sand box. With the laser you have one more thing you can say to cover your but if you do have to shoot. Here in the US i bet if you do need to shoot some one in self defense and you have a laser you can use that as part of your defense to prove you did everything you could before shooting them.
SHOUT SHOW SHOVE (Laser comes on here) Shoot
"your honer i First verbally warned the intruder to leave my premise and drop his weapon then i pointed my gun at him to show him i was armed then i turned on my Laser to show him that i aiming it at him he still kept cumming at me at that time I FELT THREATENED so i puled the trigger pleasing 3 controlled shots to the center of mass to Stop the threat to me and my family"
that is my vue on laser sights

Is there a flahlight/laser combo that would work with a MAKO vertical grip. I have a mako grip hat accepts a 1" flashlight with a trigger to activate the flashlight. I'm looking for something that has a pressure pad Ican attach to the side of the grip to activate the laser and use my trigger for the flashlight.

I run an insight M6X between my rig and my xd pistol and my benelli supernova(once I get a mount)
I tested it in cloudy -rainy weather last night and it came clean at at least 200 yds or so and would have went further if I could find a tree or telephone pole to put it on. It was a pleasant surprise.
IMO the laser pulls double duty as previously stated...its an effective deterrrent as well as designator....
I am going to mount one of those high power green lasers on my 6.8 and use the m6x for everything else.
