I'm sure this has been beaten to death but I'd really like an AR in 7.62x39 that takes regular AK mags.

While there is a system that can swap out mag wells, it's way over priced IMHO and could be done much cheaper in a single caliber.

The concept is nice, as you can swap to whatever caliber you want to but , honestly, I'd prefer a dedicated AR/AK hybrid lower.
Why hasn't someone done this already ? It shouldn't be too hard to change the mag well specs on the AR lower to CNC a stripped lower that takes regular AK mags for around $200.

Throw a piston upper on the lower and you'd have an AR that could shoot wolf ammo all day long just like an AK. It's an expensive route to an AK like platform but with prices what they are now, it's almost the same as what cheap ARs used to cost pre election.

The gun show last weekend had a ton of WASR AKs but they were $799.00 ! The cheap end ARs used to cost that much before November, why anyone thinks they'll get $799 for a Century WASR AK is beyond me but people are paying it because that's all they can get.

So, when is someone going to make a stripped AR lower that takes AK mags and doesn't want an Arm + a leg for it ?

The mane resin people are not making them is because all the research that 5th group has dun and others stating the 7.62x39 is unsuitable for an AR platform and has more drawbacks then advantages. Do to it having a very weak bolt because so much of the bolt needs to cut away to fit the rnd and the abysmal trajectory of the rnd itself. Also the shape of the rnd makes it very saseptable to jamming

When looked at in aggregate, 7.62x39 mm does NOT work well in AR15 based platforms.

The 2002 USASOC SPR-V program attempted to acquire a 7.62x39 mm weapon that would use AK mags so SF troops working with indigenous forces would have a modular weapon able to accept M4 SOPMOD accessories, but be able to shoot host nation ammo. At the August 2002 M4 SOPMOD/SPR OCONUS Performance review conference at Fort Campbell, most of the Army SF shooters who were involved with the SPR-V trials stated that they preferred the Robinson RAV02 to their M4's, as well as the KAC SR-47. While the KAC SR-47 was reasonably accurate, it was universally DESPISED as a combat weapon by all the SF personnel I have met who fired it because of it’s propensity to malfunction. In addition, the SR-47 gas tubes were reported to have problems with Eastern/3rd world manufactured “dirty” ammunition. Likewise, the SF troops who spoke at the conference complained of the poor incapacitation potential exhibited by M855 fired out of their M4's during OEF in Afghanistan in late 2001/2002--this complaint led to the USASOC validated Mission Needs Statement for an Enhanced Rifle Cartridge, which became the SPC project leading to the creation of 6.8 mm. (I suggest anyone interested in this genesis to read Zak Smith's article, as it is the most accurate and comprehensive publicly available article on the development of the 6.8 mm that I have yet found: http://demigod.org/~zak/archive/sgn_68spc.pdf) The USASOC SPR-V program was rolled in to the USSOC SCAR program in 2003.
