I am currently working up some loads for my 308AR/18" Bison stainless barrel. Bullet of choice is Nosler 168gn Ballistic tip and CCi34 primers Federal cases/2.800 oal. Thought I would play around with RL 15,and from what I have in my book the range is 40-44 gn. Anyone worked up any data for this bullet? Curious what others have come up if any.

DISCLAIMER: These loads were safe in MY rifle. The loads listed were not the hottest or fastest loads. I consider them to be mild for my barrel. Always start low and work up your loads.

I don't have any loads with RE15. I think angsniper uses that powder, so maybe he will stop in. I do have a load for the Ballistic Silver Tip 168gr. which is the same bullet but coated with Lubalox (whatever that is). My load is with Varget in a DPMS LR-308 1-10 twist 16" barrel 7.62X51 chamber. I don't have anything written down for group size. I think I just did vel./pressure checks that day, but this gun has shot good groups with every bullet in the 150-175gr range I have tried.
168gr BST
LC once fired
WLR Primer
42.5gr Varget
2386fps Avg.
26 ES
5 shot string. 45*F

I also use the same load for Sierra 165 SPBT.
I also just found data for the same exact load, but with 175gr pulled M118 projos at 2380fps Avg. with 34 ES 5 shot string shot the same day as the 168.
Varget does really good in this rifle, It is very accurate and works good with all bullets I've tried from 150-175gr. It's faster than RE15, but with a 16" Barrel I don't think I would get much more velocity out of RE15. I have not tried though.

RE15 42.0-42.5gr with 168gr SMK or Hornady Amax. I don't have any data for your particular bullet. I also used Varget and 8208

If you are willing to try IMR 4064, which is a great powder in gas guns, let me know. That is the only thing I have personal data on for 147-150gr, 168gr, and 175gr bullets. I have BLC-2 data for the 147gr.

Hey Wolf, I'm curious about 4064. I use the 175 SMK out of an 18.5" Criterion barrel. I'm in the process of working out some bugs and I've started with IMR 8208, but will eventually work towards 4064.

I have like 5 lbs of Rl 15 so I have to give it a try first. Angsniper what OAL length are you using for the 168's. Isn't 42.0 a bit low, or is that were you found your best accuracy at? I have tried 42.6-43.8 in .2 gn increments and didn't get the accuracy I was looking for. Cases look great all the way by the way. I will run them down to 42 and see if something surprises me

Yes those loads are slow but accurate. I don't mess with 168s much. Shoot mainly 175s. The SMKs are at 2.790 at 2550fps. He amaxs are at 2.775 but I misread. The amaxs are with Varget.

My AR-10 load is a 168 SMK over 42 gr of RL 15 out of WCC brass lit by a BR-2. 2.8 OAL. Approx 2600 FPS.
Ive tried the 168 NBT's, but they dont shoot as welll out of my rifle as the SMK's do.
I have a Model 7 that loves them over Varget.

PTR-91 GI load
165 Hornady SST, 43 gr TAC ,CCI 34.
Brass was LC, WCC and FC.
COL 2.80
Seems to shoot decent, haven't Chrono'd yet.

2600fps is good enough for me as long as its accurate. Thought it might be slower at 42 gn's of RL 15. Gonna give the barrel a good cleaning and start around 41.4 and see how she goes. Thanks for yalls input ,these forums always clarifies things a bit. Nice to add experiences to book data

I use Amax for target and SST for hunting. I have some Barnes I need to,load for a hunting round CCI primers. The interest thing I bought some Mil surplus it was a great deal .19 a round it is shooting 1.5 to 2.0 MOA at 100yds wish I could get more.

After give the barrel a good clean,42.8 gn of rl15 is the ticket. Found a awesome bore cleaner that you don't really even need a brush for. {Bore tech eliminator}. Patches come out blue after first pass with a swab. No smell either. This stuff is amazing!

I've been using IMR8208-XBR with pretty good results and it's not as temperature sensitive as alot of powders are.

Subscribing to this thread. Any other loads with the 168 Seirras?? Also looking at 150's BTSP for white tail but mostly looking at longer range paper punching with the 168's and have a 200 of the 175's but haven't started on them as of yet.

Wish there was a 762forum.
