Anyone else suddenly start getting advertising spam from Wilson combat on the email address they use for this forum? I most certainly did not do ANYTHING to sign up for that nor did I authorize it. This makes it spam as defined by the anti-spam laws.

I have e-mailed WC before, so I don't know if they got it here or there. I also don't feel like digging into any lawyer speak regarding registration here or spam laws. Maybe someone from Wilson can chime in, but in the mean time:

I've not gotten anything. Are you sure you didn't sign up for a news letter inadvertently? It seems far more likely than the WC guys just randomly sending out a junk email.

Or you could simply click on the opt out link at the bottom of the email and be done with it. Just sayin.

I got two this week. I figured that it came from this forum. I also noticed that they have a link promoting the forum. I see that as a good thing, and like receiving updates on their product lines. It's pretty easy to stop the emails from coming through as mentioned above. I think that receiving emails from the owner of the message board you're a member of isn't quite the same thing as getting emails for boner pills, but to each their own.

Why all the drama? As the others have said just unsubscribe. If you think it came from this forum (Wilson Combat's) and that's the problem, leave. No need getting worked up about it.

Btw for the record I get them to but I remember signing up when they were having a contest. They rank right up there with my Victoria secrets morning spam email

Is your ranking system based on your ordering frequency?:a32:

I get the emails...but it is because I have bought stuff from WC, and it has a check box for news letters etc.

You could have unsubscribed quicker than it took you to post this and insult a sponsor the entire shooting industry respects. WC is not a spammer. I look forward to WC emails and others from Midway, LaRue, Bravo Company, and others. I too get the VS emails. Guns and Gals, it's an American thing.

I just opened my junk email and saw an email from them. Didn't know they exisisted before then. Then I came on the forum and saw this thread. So let's say it wasn't a forum supporter and it was the DNC looking for donations that was all of a sudden sending unwanted emails to forum members, Would that be ok?I think the point of the thread isn't he got an email, it's how they got his address. I was wondering the samething honestly. As long as they are forum members and sponsors I am all for it. But now I am curious as to how many spam mails are sent cause I am a member of forums, not just this one.

They arent just supporters and members, they own this website.

I get 'em, and welcome them - my complaint is that I just wish they would have coupons or something attached (not for boner pills; a WC coupon would kill two birds...).

I started getting them as well, figured it was from this board, but I love gun spam, hate cialis and Nigerian lottery spam!

I second the coupons idea, I also get email from WC and was doing some "window" shopping before church this morning. Sucks being broke.

I look forward to WC emails and others from Midway, LaRue, Bravo Company, and others. I too get the VS emails. Guns and Gals, it's an American thing. I have never had any dealings with them in any way. There is no possibility that I signed up for anything from them. To say they are not spammers when I received unsolicited email from them makes me think you should find out the definition of Spam. I did unsubscribe before posting this but was concerned others might be getting unsolicited email from them as well. If I had signed up for anything from them and then complained THEN I would be insulting them. Pointing out something g that they DID do cannot possibly be considered insulting. If I have offended you then I'm sorry it wasn't my intention and I do like WC producer and was contemplating a purchase from them. Please note that I am a computer server/security administrator including setting up email servers and I'm fully aware of what defines spam. My thoughts were originally was that perhaps marketing got a brilliant idea and thought no one would mind without thinking about the consequences of the poor decision to use email addresses from this forum.

Legally speaking, if you signed up for 68forums, which you did, you may have checked a box allowing emails from the forum for notifications. Once Wilson Combat bought the forum, they bought everything, which may include the ability to email those that checked those boxes

Correct except for the fact that I am religious about opting out of those, I keep a seperate email address for the rare times I can't.

Moonie,
We pulled a list, from the 68 forums software, of members that were interested in receiving more information. If somehow you got included, and you did not want further contact from the forum or WC, we apologize. I have asked our forum programmer to look for any software issue that could have migrated anyone onto that list. Not only can you opt out, if you would like to PM me your email address that you received our newsletter on, I will have our IT folks strike it from any list on our side.

Best Regards,

WilsonCombatRep

I've received a couple of the Wilson emails. Wasn't a bother at all to receive them, but it was kind of interesting to see this thread and understand how I got on the list. My wife's maiden name is Wilson, and she thought it was "kind of cool" to see guns with her name on 'em. License to buy? I think so...

While I don't mind the emails. And yes, I assumed it was because I was a member here. Technically speaking when you check that box, that's for actual forum notifications. ie: responses to threads, pm's etc. Don't believe it gives the right to receive solicitation/marketing emails. I believe there's supposed to be a seperate check box for such items to allow folks to opt out before receiving such items.
