Anyone know anything about this ammo?
20rds - 6.8 SPC Sellier & Bellot 110gr Plastic Tip Special Ammo
[22720] $18.95
This is 6.8 SPC Sellier & Bellot 110gr Plastic Tip Special. The PTS bullet is the result of efforts of hunting cartridge designers to develop bullet with high wounding effects preserving concurrently excellent ballistic values. The bullet with lead core is covered with strengthening casing and furnished with polymer tip. Optimum shape enables the bullet to achieve higher speed and trajectory stability. These characteristics ensure excellent accuracy and wounding capability of the bullet that remains compact even at the moment of the strike,it does not shatter and it does not impair game. Together with Sierra and Barnes bullets, PTS bullets extend the range of rifle cartridges used for hunting and they extend possibilites of optimum choice for various kinds of use. This ammo is made in the Czech Republic and is brass cased and boxer primed.

It looks like they are using the Hornady V-Max bullets.

They have a few things in common with Hrdy.

Are they loading to the hornady standard loading or closer to the TAP loading?

I have not used any yet but it's been my experience with other calibers that S&B loads on the hot side.

I have heard that as well, and is why I am wondering if it is loaded more like the "combat" loads or the regular ones.
The claimed velocity off of their website is 777M/s and 1 meter per second = 3.2808399 feet per second with a claimed velocity of 2549 f/s but they don't say out of what length barrel.
which is what hornandy claims is the velocity of their 110 grain ballistic tip out of a 16 inch barrel, so it seems they are about the same.

That is part of it. I you have them check out what size the primer are? If you reload pull one apart and weight the charge and case. Post what you find.

I dont reload but when I am home I want to start getting set up so I can go to cabellas and buy some stuff and pull the bullets and such....

Since you have some take a look at the primer. What size are they? S or L
If you aren't sure, if you have some other ammo in any caliber check it against it and then you can known by knowing what the other uses. I am very interested to know this.

While I have not had an opportunity to try out S&B's 6.8 yet, I have had noting but great luck with their 5.56, .303 British, and 7.62X51. Very nice ammunition! Their prices are low because of cheaper labor costs in the Czech republic. S&B has been a major European ammunition maker for well over 150 years.
If their 6.8 is anywhere near as good at their other ammo it should be great stuff. I agree with other posters who have said that S&B in general is on the hot side. Can't wait to try some of their 6.8 out.

Just got my 5 boxes today. Compared them to the SSA's I already have. First, they have Large Primer, so they'll go in the Remington group...Second, They are noticably longer, i.e. the necks are really long. The rims are cut narrower. Nothing here "worries" me, just observations. Can't wait to try them out!!! :D

these are loaded with hornady v-max bullets...
if you look in the 6.8 discussion @ marinesg1012's lwrc thread there is a nice group with this ammo and the hornady .... if you look tat them they are almost identical and the best groups on the target....

Yes I have 200 rounds of them and they shoot about the same as the Hornandy. I will probably buy more once the rem goes away for training and maybe see how they do on coyotes this winter.

No worries, I will have to shoot some out of my new upper at 100 yards and post it up compared to the Vmax and the Vmax TAP

Because for this thread and because I was at the range and was shooting anyways I thought I would do something for you guys:
first here at the pics of the hornandy Vmax (right) and the SandB plastic tip special ammo left:

http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/medium/IMG_04732.JPG
first the SandB is green and the hornandy is red plastic tip the SandB also has a large rifle primer as mentioned before. Also the Hornandy has a cannular and the s and b doesnt.
here is a 10 shot group at 50 meters with my 18 inch ar performance upper with the sandB:
http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/medium/IMG_04751.JPG
and here is 10 more rounds shot into it but this time I used the Hornandy 110 grain vmax:

I dont have a chrono but they seem pretty much the same to me :D

That S&B reminds me of a Nosler Ballistic tip. Now that would be a good bullet for the 6.8, a 110gr Nosler Ballistic Tip.

I want SSA to make a 110 ballistic tip round (combat of course) for varmits, both two and four legged :D
OH ARTTTTTT :D :D

A little while back someone here, I don't remember who, was lobbying Nosler to make a 110gr Ballistic Tip, but I am not certain where that project is at. Hopefully they see how popular the Accubond is and realize making a Ballistic Tip would make a lot of money. I bet Art could one of those to 2650+ from a 16" and the accuracy and terminal ballistics would be ideal.

We definitely need someone to make some Ballistic Tip bullets. The Hornady 110 Gr. bullets, with their ogive, are hard to get any consistant accuracy out of them, especially with the SPCII Chambers.

Please forgive me if this is old news but, in the current catalog of Cheaper Than Dirt on the S & B ammo page they list a 6.8 load for barnes 110 TSX and a Hornady PTS 110. It looks like the PTS is made by Hornady. I have not heard about the S&B TSX load until I saw that catalog. Both were listed at 2550 fps

If that TSX load shoots like the plastic tip one I would go for it.

I think you might be incorrect as SSA if tis for the lowest price for any 6.8 ammo as SSA has ammo for $12 a box or 90 TNT.
