Well my weekend hog hunting trip ended in 2 pigs down both shot with my AR Performance 6.8 using SSA Barnes 85 TSX. Both were short shots - so my shooting was a little off. 1st hog was 155 lbs, shot with through both front legs about midway up and vitals, no bullet found. Hog moved maybe 10 feet from spot shot.

2nd hog was 92 lbs. Shot was just behind the front legs (wrong spot - I know). Pass through - easily followed blood trail. I must have punctured the lungs based on the amount and color of blood. Hog traveled about 45 yards. I was a bit surprised at that - but the hog traveled that far - but it was easy to track.

I was very happy with my 6.8 on this trip, and the way the Barnes 85 TSX bullet performed. I look forward to using this combination on future pigs in the Spring. It has allowed me to move my aimpoint to the forward shoulder area - and I have not lost a hog yet !

Nice hunting. I have a feeling this year is going to be a good year for some big hogs.

North East Texas - a place called Hunters Creek Ranch.

Part of the hogs are going to the processor, part of them will be going on the smoker !!!

Doug,

How did you enjoy the experience there? Did you do a 1 day or 2 trip?

When does the day start? In the afternoon, in the PM, hunt all night then to at least half of the next day before 11 AM?

How many acres were you hunting on and was there a game fence?

What is the maximum number of people they allow on that land at any one time?

How many hogs did you see, or do you feel like you were seeing the same group of pigs over and over again.

I went to a game ranch in Gonzales, TX that was much more expensive. They also double booked it so our group of 4 had to hunt with, 14 other guys on 300 acres. However, I will digress from talking about my experience there.

Now I am doing the hunting on 300 acres of private land north of Austin. I forgot a buddy had some land there and they pull in 400lb+ hogs a few times a year.

Congrads, you were less than an hour from us www.circlewcranch.com (http://www.circlewcranch.com)

That has to be the slowest loading web site I have ever seen..................takes forever to look at any of the pics with a T1 line !!!!!

My buddy and I had a great time. Bob and Doreen make you feel at home. We did a weekend trip, arrived late on Friday, and left Sunday. We should have hunted Friday evening, but I could not leave early from work. We could have hunted Sunday evening but did not. So that is Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We could have hunted at night, but we did not need too. Enough hogs moving around during the day - so we slept at night and hunted morning and evenings. Its a decent sized place - and well taken care of. I think the place would be considered low fence. The hogs move in and out of the place though. Bob said they only very very rarely book more than 1 group at a time. This last weekend it was only me and my buddy hunting, and we had the place to ourselves. They have lots of hogs running around. I'm not sure I saw the same hog the whole time I was there. Food was OUTSTANDING. It was actually fairly relaxing. I'm definitely going back in the Spring.

Thanks. Yeah, I'm in the IT business, and I talked to him about his website. He's using full size pics instead of resizing them - probably his biggest issue. He could use a complete website redo.

Your website looks great by the way !

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like a good time. I will add that place to my list just in case there is a change of scenery needed.
